The wildly popular British ( and 1/5 Irish) boyband, One Direction, was an international sensation from their origins in the X-Factor up until they went on hiatus in 2015. The band was put together on a whim by judge Simon Cowell, and although they did not win the X-Factor, they went on to become one of the biggest music sensations of all time. The five members, Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik, and Liam Payne were all teens who came from small towns and modest ways of living. They were quickly thrown into the limelight after gaining popularity and a huge fanbase almost overnight; their lives would never be the same. For almost five years they released albums and went on multiple international tours, performing night after night at different locations around the globe. Their fanbase expanded from thousands to millions and their presence on the international music stage grew. Every move they made, every style they wore, every word they said was scrutinized under the public eye for the masses to view and critique. Zayn Malik left the group in early 2015, and One Direction announced their indefinite hiatus in early 2016.
After splitting up the group went their separate ways, each member pursuing a solo career and releasing new music. Their personal music styles were very different from the music they produced as a band and they each released unique music, some members of the group releasing entire solo albums.
With what would have been their decade anniversary coming up, there have been signs of a possible reunion that has fans of all ages acting up on social media. Niall, Harry, Liam, and Louis have all refollowed Zayn on Twitter, and several of them have said on multiple occasions that One Direction will reunite; though they are not 100% sure of how it will happen. With the spread of Corona Virus, any possible chances of a reunion have been halted, but One Direction fans, some of who are now full-grown adults, are more active than ever hoping for their dream reunion. One thing is for sure; a reunion of a band this caliber would cause waves across the globe. If tickets were sold, they would sell out in seconds, and entire stadiums would be filled with screaming fans. It would be a gigantic smash hit: something so iconic it makes music history.
