Dear America,
Please respect the people that are bagging your groceries. Please make sure to give good tips to your waiters. Don't make a cashier's day even worse by refusing to wear a mask. Because without us this country wouldn't be running.
I recently started working again as a food runner at a local restaurant and I have seen, first hand, the safety measures that are not being respected by customers. People are not wearing masks, people are disregarding what the bar says, and people are not social distancing.
Where I live our governor has gotten us into Phase 3 which means that restaurants can start opening up back at full capacity. That is going to put us in even more danger because people will start to assume that everything is back to normal and not follow health standards.
The danger is very high for us because we are tiring out our bodies and leaving ourselves vulnerable to catching the virus. If we were to catch it we would be hit harder and also pass it onto our families. Many of us will lose our source of income if we have to go backwards in reopening.
THIS IS NOT OVER! Coronavirus is still very much alive and the fact that people are going back to, "Normal life", is very disrespectful to all of us who are out here risking our health to help keep the economy running as well as making sure we can have a sustainable income.
If you can't order things online and do curbside pick up then please be sure that when you are at our businesses to wear masks, follow our protocols set in place, and make sure that you don't have any symptoms of Covid-19.
At the end of the day, just make sure that you are thanking the people that don't have the choice to work from home.
