A Feeling of Inadequacy

Seving in Kaabong, Uganda

A Feeling of Inadequacy

Inadequacy. A word I struggle with consistently. Inadequate to make it through school, inadequate to serve in ministry, just inadequate to do whatever the Lord had placed on my heart. This summer, I was blessed to be able to serve the Karajamong people here in Kaabong, Uganda. While this season here has been so sweet, it has come with many ups and downs of spiritual warfare beginning in March. When I received the call telling me I would be serving in Africa, I immediately felt inadequate. I was flooded with thoughts telling me that I couldn't do it because I had no experience and was fresh out of school. Two weeks before the trip, I received an email saying that Covid-19 was on a rise here in Uganda and the country was shut down. Our trip was still on, but the enemy filled my head with the lies of fear. He told me I would be inadequate to meet the needs here. Fast-forward to life here in Kaabong. Upon getting here, my team and I quickly realized the need here was far greater than we anticipated. We would step into the roll of a doctor by diagnosing and prescribing, something I was completely unprepared for. Again, the enemy began telling me I was inadequate to do this and these people would be better off if I would have stayed home. In the past three weeks, I have felt inadequate to serve, inadequate as a believer, and inadequate as a friend. I have had many hard conversations in three short weeks here in Kaabong. My heart has been completely wrecked and remolded in a season that I was so spiritually dry in. But I have come to realize, the enemy is correct. I am inadequate… when I try to be adequate out of self. Our adequacy comes from Christ and Christ alone. 2 Corinthians 12:9 says, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Today, I am reminded that when we attempt to do anything in the power of self, ultimately we fail. It is through Christ alone that we are given the power (and the adequacy) to do what He has called us to do. So my friends, I urge you to cling to this verse in seasons when you feel inadequate or unequipped.

18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?
