Saving Time and Money by Being Prepared

A College Student’s Checklist to getting your backpack ready for School

Today I started getting my backpack ready and binders organized—something I feel like a pro at now going into my fourth year of college. Everything is color-coded and has its own specific place, from my battery pack to my college ID. Surprisingly, taking the time to sort through items like this, and making sure you know exactly where they are will make your whole college experience much more enjoyable and will alleviate any unnecessary stress.

I know these things now, but let me remind you that it has come after spending practically my whole life being in school. More often than not, I would constantly spend money on things like replacement ID’s, new (non-crumpled up) scantrons, and phone charging cords ( which I already have about 20 of at home, but I needed one right that moment). Being a college student, these are things that you especially do not have the money to waste on. With that being said, the purpose of this blog is to look out for the next girl (or guy) and save you the little bit of time and money that you have.

The Checklist

1. A Graphing Calculator.

(Trust me, you’ll eventually need one no matter what your major is)

2. A Phone Cord and Wall Piece!!

3. A Battery Pack.

(For when there are no available outlets to plug your phone in)

4. Your College ID.

Don’t ever take it out, and if you do, always put it right back. If not, I promise you’ll end up having to buy at least one $15 replacement ID... Not to mention, but you’ll be surprised by all of the unexpected discounts you can get just by having it.

5. Extra Crappy Pencils for That Friend That Always Comes Unprepared.

(and you know you won’t be getting back)

6. Headphones.

7. A little bit of Cash.

8. AN UMBRELLA.

This might be the most important item on the list.

9. Flash cards.

10. Always pack one or two Advil, and any other medicines you might take on the daily basis just in case you forget.

11. USB Drive.

12. Laptop and Charger.

13. Scantrons.

14. Loose Leaf Paper.

15. Syllabus. Bring it to your first day of class. If nothing else, it’ll make you look prepared.

16. And finally, don’t forget any of the obvious items (books, highlighters, pens/pencils, notebooks, etc.)

Sorority
Rebekah Lee

I remember my freshman year oh so well. I remember feeling terrified the night before orientation. The one thing that I dreaded the most was not the new people, the new environment, or even the academic pressure. I was dreading having to talk to sorority girls about Recruitment. I remember cutting off and avoiding any Rho Gamma/Panhellenic Officer that came my way during First Week. I looked at them like they had asked me to cut my arm off whenever they asked me if I wanted to rush. To be honest, I did not even know what rush was, but I knew that I did NOT want to be a part of it. To me, it was dumb. It was a waste of money. It was a waste of my time.

And guess what? I did not rush my freshman year. I spent the first half of my freshman year isolating myself from everyone on campus. I spent all of my time in the library, and then (since I was a commuter) went back home once my work was finished.

Tiana would no doubt be disappointed in the food our cafeteria has to offer.

And hopefully she would cook for everyone in her dorm.

She definitley would not take any 8:00 am classes because she would be up late baking and cleaning up the communal kitchen that are available in every dorm.
