A College Girls Playlist - Vol. 1

"That's one of the great things about music. You can sing a song to 85,000 people and they'll sing it back for 85,000 different reasons" -Dave Grohl

A College Girls Playlist - Vol. 1

I invite you to my playlist that feels my heart with love and joy. These 10 songs are my go-to for when the aux is handed to me, my headphones are in, or I am simply in the car alone.

Enjoy my loves.

1. I'm With You – Vance Joy

This soothing song has been in my playlist for almost a year. I fell in love with it when I was feeling extra anxious and overwhelmed, however, the melody and Vance's voice led me to feel calm. Also, the song is about two lovers, and I am a sucker for all things romance

2. Who You Say I Am - Hillsong Worship

I absolutely fell in love with this song when I was introduced to it at the nondenominational church I go to when I am back at college (shout out to The Orchard Starkville). I have also been struggling with what God has called me to do, and when I listen to this song, I feel the relief knowing that I am defined by our loving Father and I am who He says I am. I know that He has the most perfect plans for me, and no matter how many times I have failed, He will qualify me for what He has called me to do.

3. So Will I - Hillsong UNITED

Oh my goodness, this is my last worship song on my playlist for Vol. 1. I just had to include it because it makes me so happy and tear up when I am singing it. I honestly wouldn't want it any other way. I would never want to become numb to worship songs when I am worshiping the King of Kings. This song is just so inspiring knowing that God made everything to worship Him and if the stars were made to worship, then so will I.

4. Self Care - Mac Miller

I love love love this song. It is so fun to listen too, and when I was traveling through Paris, I would listen to this song and Mac would sing the lyrics "I switched the time zone, but what do I know" and it just gave me such relaxing travel vibes. It is a great chilling and road trip song. Also, R.I.P Mac, I will continue to be a fan forever.

5. HOTTIE - BROCKHAMPTON

This song is the best song to get ready to. It is upbeat and so worth funny dancing too. It puts me in a great mood every time I listen to it, and I feel that BROCKHAMPTON are very underappreciated artists that deserve some light in this playlist.

6. Hold My Girl - George Ezra

I told you guys earlier that I am just a sucker for love and this song is so cute and romantic. It is a song all about wanting his time with his girl, which I think is extra sweet. George Ezra is very alternative style music, which I always enjoy listening too when I need uplifting and something not as hype as rap, but not to slow for tears.

7. Truth - Lizzo

YES, I had to put this gem in here. I feel that some are tired of hearing this song, but honestly, it is probably just getting started. This song is so female empowering and is so fun to listen to during a girl's night, or even with your boyfriend driving and letting you control the music. I love it and honestly, all of Lizzo's songs make you feel so empowered and motivated.

8. Forever Young - Lil Yachty

I do not care what anyone says, Lil Yachty's Teenage Emotions Album was FIRE. Forever Young was my absolute favorite from the album (I am just ready for his new album to drop honestly). However, this song is so fun and will make you want to dance, fall in love, and have fun all in one. Also, this summer my boyfriend tweeted Lil Yachty about us blaring this song together and LIL YACHTY LIKED IT, how cool, so by famous twitter associations, you should totally add this song to your playlist.

9. Promises - Wiz Khalifa

Again, I am a sucker for romance and rap music. LOL, I enjoy this song because it is slower and makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Also, it adds rap flavor to a slower song which I enjoy deeply. This song is for your long nights, winding down, long night car drives with your other half, or maybe your just in your feelings and want to cry a little bit (we all go there), so this song is perfect for all of the above.

10. Old Town Road Remix - Lil Nas X, Billie Ray Cyrus, Young Thug, and Mason Ramsey

I KNOW, I KNOW, I HAD TOO. I almost was sick of hearing Old Town Road and then they came out with this gem. It seriously mashes different genres of music altogether and makes something so fun to listen too. I don't find myself listening to this song when I am just driving or alone, however this is the perfect song to listen to with your friends and everyone is down to just have some fun and enjoy laughs together.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
