Looking back to my childhood photos and seeing some of the outfits my parents dressed me in, I can only say to myself, "What were you thinking?" Being born in '95, I was in the middle of a new time period being created, where everything was transitioning to a more technological standpoint. Our technology wasn't the only thing changing, our style was too. Here are five styles that are making a comeback from their '90s era.
1. Bright lipstick
Made famous by artists and actors like Madonna, Gwen Stefani, Christina Aguilera and Lil' Kim, bright lipsticks are on their way back to the top and to lots of your makeup bags. Kylie Jenner's new lip line includes bright colors like her "22" and "Mary Jo K" that can be found here. Makeup line ColourPop, born in LA, features '90s-influenced colors Sundae and Lychee.
2. Overalls
This is one '90s fad I can't get myself to bring into 2016. Although I obsess over the super cute-styled overall outfits I find on my daily (six-hour) scroll through Pinterest, you most likely won't find me rocking a set of these. For those of you bold enough to pull off this classic style, find super cute and super cheap (bonus!) styles here.
3. Choker necklaces
Making the most epic comeback thanks to festivals such as Coachella and Spring Awakening, the choker can be a simple additive or a stylish statement piece for any outfit. I choose to rock some simpler pieces, and I get all my fave chokers from H&M and the wonderful Charming Charlie.
4. High-waisted pants
Here's a '90s fad I can really "Get Jiggy With" (I hope you caught that Will Smith reference). The high-waisted pant fad can also thank the festie fashion for making its comeback, rocked by celebs like Vanessa Hudgens, Beyoncé and Gigi Hadid. You can find this fad at most retailers, or you can turn to Pinterest to DIY it up and create your very own pair. Charlotte Russe has been my go-to for all my high-waisted needs. I've also turned to my creative side and made my own pair with the help of this post on Pinterest!
5. Crop tops
My favorite to pair with #4's fad high-waisted pants. While my stylish pants can squeeze and tone any extra baggage I have (we can't all look as amazing as Aaliyah), the crop will layer perfectly on top. Pair this duo with a choker and a pair of chucks, and you've got yourself a kick-butt outfit! Give it to me baby! For endless amounts of crop top love check out Forever 21 and my favorite crops like The Cuffed Crop or The Summer Vibes Halter Crop.
The clothes were good, and the music was great — there's no denying the '90s influence will live with us forever!
