9 Ways To Kickstart Inspiration

With the new year in full swing, some of those resolutions might be starting to fade away, already waiting to be attempted again next year– But don't let them! Stop right now, and take control of your life. Each day is an opportunity to accomplish something great, so take advantage of it.

So, yeah, I've been feeling a little inspired lately. I don't know– maybe it's the new year, or the fact that I'm going into my last semester of college and then, it's time to enter the real world (omg), but I've been determined to achieve some great things in 2017. One of my issues, though, is I often think of new, exciting ideas, but then it takes me forever to actually act on them.

My number one goal for this year is to change that.

It's time to take charge of the days that I have, and make something awesome out of them.

I want the same for you, too! So here is a list I've put together of ways to actually kick-start that creative energy into action, and lead you to achieving that goal– no matter what it is.

1. Blast The Volume

Make a playlist of songs that that make you feel like you are Beyoncé, and play it non-stop. Soon enough, you will be her– I promise.

2. Build A Fan Base

When you put a goal out there into the world, it will probably give you a little determination to make it happen. Thankfully, in today's world, we can do that just with our fingertips. Sharing your new adventure with your friends and family will give you some energy to make it happen. Plus, a few motivational comments online never hurt.

3. Schedule It In

If you make it a part of your day, you will make it a part of your life. Set a specific time where your are going to tackle the next building block, and you'll be making amazing progress in no time.

4. Think Of The Endless Possibilities

Make a list of all the different ways you can achieve what you want. Once you get through the first few, the ideas will start flowing, and you'll be surprised with all the things you can do to make this goal your own.

5. Learn From The Greats

What have people who have achieved this goal, or something similar, done before you? I'm all for taking your own path, but it is definitely smart to see what others have done, and learn from their pieces of advice.

6. Make A Friend, Or Two

Nothing will make you want to accomplish something than if your friends are getting there faster than you. Just kidding, but seriously, having people going through this with you will motivate you, always give you someone to relate to. Just remember, it's not a race, you're all on your own journey.

7. Track your progress

Take pictures, write in a journal, make a video diary– Anything you want, and you'll be able to see how far you've come.

8. Read. A. Book.

If you're having a down day, read some words of inspiration. My personal favorite is You Are A Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living An Awesome Life, by Jen Sincero.

9. Go Explore

Nothing will kick-start some inspiration like experiencing a new place and new people. It could be a different street in your neighborhood, or a different continent– Go someplace new, and see what you discover!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
