1. Sue Thomas F.B. Eye (2002-05)
Inspired by a true story, Sue Thomas is a deaf young woman who begins working at the F.B.I. analyzing fingerprints. When an F.B.I. agent, Jack, discovers her lipreading abilities, he asks her to join a surveillance team. Accompanied by her adorable hearing dog, Levi, Sue embraces life in the F.B.I.. Her adventures and misadventures make for a feel-good dramedy.
2. The Young Riders (1981-92)
The Young Riders follows the life of 6 Pony Express Riders in the years leading up to the Civil War. All come from different backgrounds, but under the careful watch of ex-Texas Ranger "Teaspoon," they find their way through the dangerous life of Express Riding. Characters include young versions of Wild Bill Hickok, Buffalo Bill Cody, Jesse James, and a girl who pretends to be a boy in order to ride.
3. BBC's Robin Hood (2006-2009)
Following the traditional Robin Hood story line, Robin returns from a crusade to find the Sheriff of Nottingham holding the city with an iron fist. Robin becomes an outlaw, stealing from the rich and feeding the poor. A nice clean telling of the story with a few unexpected twists.
4. MacGyver (1985-92)
The original MacGyver series features Richard Dean Anderson as the title character. Popular in the late 80's, the series is still worth watching. MacGyver is a secret agent who refuses to carry a gun on missions, instead choosing to work his way out of sticky situations using practical science and a lot of creativity.
5. Dr. Quinn: Medicine Woman (1993-98)
As one of the first female doctors, Michaela Quinn's presence is not appreciated in the post-Civil War frontier town of Colorado Springs. "Dr. Mike" tries to win the townspeople's approval while raising three orphaned children and navigating a romance with Sully, a mysterious mountain man.
6. Murdoch Mysteries (2008-present)
The 10 season run so far speaks to the show's popularity in Canada, however it hasn't gained much traction in the US. Set in Toronto in the 1890's, Detective William Murdoch attempts to solve murders using new methods that later become known as the field of forensics. Accompanied by a spunky female coroner, Dr. Julia Ogden and the lovable Constable Crabtree, Murdoch works to bring science into police work.
7. Father Murphy (1981-83)
Set in the 1870's, school teacher Mae and frontiersman John Murphy fight the state to prevent nearly two dozen orphaned children from being sent to a workhouse after a mining accident kills their parents. John pretends to be a priest in order to keep the children and the constant struggle to protect his false identity leads to hilarious escapades.
8. Pie in the Sky (1994-97)
Detective Inspector Henry Crabbe attempts to retire from the police force to fulfill his dream of running a fine restaurant. His inept superior devises a scheme to keep Henry in the force, causing dilemmas as Henry is regularly pulled out of his kitchen to solve crimes, leaving the restaurant in constant chaos.
9. The Glades (2010-13)
Chicago police detective leaves Chicago for what he believes to be an easy job in Palm Glades, Florida. Between rubbing his colleagues the wrong way and solving homicides, Jim Longworth pursues a relationship with Callie, a mother, nurse, and medical student who doesn't like cops.
