With the passing of Halloween comes an extremely hyped time of year: the holidays. Always referred to by this simple yet famous term, the holidays are by far one of the best parts of the year. The only downside? Patiently waiting for that day at the end of December to arrive. If you’re super impatient like me, perhaps this list will help you pass the time in the most spirited and fun way.
1. Shop online.
How else will you craft the perfect Christmas list to dole out to family? Online shopping is the perfect way to stay snuggled in your warm bed, avoiding the blustery winter, while still finding that perfect dress your closet is lacking.
2. Make holiday desserts.
Baking kills so much time because it can be so time consuming. Obviously, the best way to kill time until Christmas is by baking one Christmas-themed treat every week until the holiday. Or, for you over-achievers, bake one every single day. It’s sweater weather, so those extra calories can be so easily hidden.
3. Sing loud for all to hear.
If you truly want to spread Christmas cheer, you should definitely sing loud for all to hear. Wherever you go. Whoever you’re with. I suggest Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You.” Because those high notes are so easy to hit, you’ll grace the ears of everyone around when you belt it out.
4. Play Christmas music.
Not only should you sing loudly everywhere and with everyone, you should constantly play Christmas music in your house, car, etc. Playing “Christmas Shoes” once a day isn’t nearly enough. You should be sure to play your favorite Christmas songs on loop throughout the house. You’ll always stay in that cheery Christmas spirit, and so will your housemates.
5. Make crafts.
Crafting can really take up your time; not only will it help Christmas arrive sooner, but you’ll end up with so many fun new trinkets that you absolutely, totally need. For those of you who aren’t so crafty, try making a paper chain to count down the holiday. You’ll need red and green paper -- for obvious reasons -- some staples, and voila!
6. Surprise your housemates with gifts.
Hide small Christmas surprises, like some beautiful tinsel, in random spots throughout your house to get your roommates in the Christmas spirit too! Really, who doesn’t love shiny, glittery strings of plastic? It’ll look super cute, and your roommates will appreciate the effort you put in to surprise them.
7. Prepare your wardrobe.
Being the social butterfly that you are, you’re bound to receive invites to countless Christmas parties. You’ll need to show up properly dressed, i.e., ugly Christmas sweaters galore. Don’t settle for those lame store-bought sweaters; design and make multiple ugly Christmas sweaters to spice up every holiday party.
8. Make gourmet Christmas meals.
If your biggest inspiration in life is Buddy the Elf (like he is to many people), then you’ll need to practice his eating habits with every meal. It is crucial to remember the four food groups: candy, candy canes, candy corns, and syrup. Get creative and incorporate Pop Tarts, full two liters of soda, syrup, and more into every breakfast, lunch, and dinner that you consume.
9. Host movie nights.
Forget ABC Family’s 25 Days of Christmas; host your own personal movie nights. It’s a much better idea to stock up on every Christmas-themed DVD possible and watch them without the hassle of annoying commercials. Like the blasting of Christmas music, you should run these films constantly to keep the Christmas spirit alive.
These nine tips are sure to help you pass the time until Christmas while simultaneously keeping you and everyone around you -- friend or stranger -- in the best, most spirited mood. Stock up on sugary foods, crafting supplies, and Christmas DVDs, and try your best to wait patiently for December 25.
