On many days I find myself to be overwhelmed with stress and anxiety. These are just a few of the things I do to decompress and hopefully they work for you too!
1. Take 10 deep breaths that each last at least 8 second
Taking deep breaths helps to slow the heart rate and brings a sense of peace.
2. Listen to calming music
Personally, I love listening to Michael Buble's Christmas album, it reminds me of all the things I have to be thankful for and brings a sense of warmth and Holiday spirit.
3. Eat Ice Cream
Ben and Jerry, the only two guys I will ever need! There's just something about ice-cream that fixes all problems!
4. Go for a run
I tend to run more when I desire to relieve anger, but when I'm feeling anxious sometimes I'll decide to run as well. But I can promise you will never find me on a treadmill, I prefer running outdoors for the scenery and fresh air.
5. Watch your favorite movie(s)
I'm a sucker for the classics! When I get super stressed, I tend to put everything aside for a couple of hours (or the whole day), grab a bowl of ice-cream and cuddle up on the couch to watch a few of my favorites!
6. Take a nap
This is probably the easiest solution and most common! Most times when I take a nap, I wake up well rested and feeling relieved, and there's other times where I will still wake up in a fret, but at least I put my worries away for a couple of hours.
7. Cuddle with your animals
When accessible, the best medication for anything is your pets! They love you unconditionally and there is no way that you can leave any situation not feeling 10 times better after cuddling with your pets!
8. Go to yoga
This is a personal favorite of mine! I highly recommend Hot Yoga, but any form of yoga will do! Whether you go to a yoga class or do it at home, you will finish feeling relieved and with a whole new energy.
9. Sit down and write
I find that when I write about my day, it helps to find the source of where the anxiety or stress came from, which helps to combat some of the stress if I can find possible solutions to the problem(s).
