9 Things You Must Do While Abroad In Europe
Sam Chmiel

Recently I studied abroad in Florence, Italy for 3.5 months. At times it felt overwhelming trying to decide where to go and what to do while abroad for only one semester. I put together a list of my 9 favorite things I did while abroad that everyone should consider doing during their time abroad. Time will fly by in the blink of an eye so it's important to use your time traveling wisely and go to the places you want to see most. Here's 9 things I think you must do while abroad in Europe:

1. Watch the sunset over Paris, France.

While in Paris for the weekend, my friend and I decided to ride the Ferris Wheel in the city to get a view of the entire city. Luckily we managed to plan it so we were on the Ferris Wheel during sunset, allowing us to see the sun set over one of the most magical cities in all of Europe.

2. Go paragliding in the Swiss Alps in Interlaken, Switzerland.

If you're looking to do something adventurous during your time abroad, I suggest going paragliding in the Swiss Alps. Not only does it provide you with a great view, it provides you with an adrenaline rush. Surprisingly, it's not as scary as it seems.

3. Throw a coin in the Trevi Fountain in Rome, Italy.

This is at the top of my must do list if you go to Rome. Throw in a coin and make a wish. Legend has it if you throw a coin from your right hand over your left shoulder than you will return to Rome one day.

4. Go to Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany.

If you're looking to go to a festival in Europe and drink all day, this should be at the top of your list for places you must go. Although it will be a tiring day/weekend, it'll be well worth it. If you don'y like beer, there is still plenty of other things to do such as walking around the festival trying different foods or going on different rides.

5. Go leather shopping in Florence, Italy.

Florence is known for their leather so whether you are looking for gifts for yourself or someone else, the leather markets in Florence are the place to be. I constantly found myself in the leather markets throughout my 3.5 months in Florence. If you see something you like, make sure to try to get the price lower because the vendors are almost always willing to sell their goods at a lower price.

6. Go inside the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, Spain.

I went in tons of churches in Europe and this one is by far the most impressive. From the high ceilings to the ornate stain glass, this is a church everyone will enjoy. Make sure to buy your tickets online a head of time because it may sell out and you don't want to miss this!

7. Go on a gondola ride in Venice, Italy.

Venice itself will take your breath away, but if you really want a complete experience in Venice, a gondola ride is essential. This was by far one of my favorite things I did while abroad.

8. Go to the John Lennon Wall in Prague, Czech Republic.

You don't need to be a John Lennon fan to enjoy this place. Bring markers or spray paint to leave your mark in Prague. From inspiring quotes to live music, this is another must do while abroad.

9. Go horseback riding in Tuscany, Italy.

What better way to really see Tuscany, than to get horseback riding through grape vines and olive trees? Finish off the day with a wine tour.

Being a part of any organization undoubtedly comes with the pitfalls of being grouped into negative stereotypes, and sororities are certainly no exception. Here are the top few things, that I find at least, are some of the most irritating misconceptions that find their way into numerous conversations...

8. "The whole philanthropy thing isn't real, right?"

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
