It's that time in the semester where everyone is stressed out, tired, and ready for a break. Finals are approaching. Everyone is struggling to find the motivation to finish their assignments and to go to the library. People are trying to find the time to pack their things up to go home for the summer. While we are stressed about school and packing, we stress about not seeing our friends for 3 months and want to spend the time we do not have with them. Here are some things to remember during dead week and finals week:

1. Go to Class

Unfortunately, some professors do not cancel classes during dead week. If you have those professors make sure that you continue to go to class because you may miss new material or an extra credit opportunity.

2. Schedule

Have a set schedule of when you are going to finish classwork and study. If you have a schedule, make sure you stick to it. Planning when to do things will help you complete everything.

3. Sleep

Although you may feel that you can survive off of Monster, Red Bull, and little food - you can't. You have to sleep. If you are well rested, then you function better. If you sleep, you study and test better.

4. Eat

Remember to eat real food, not just a bag of chips or a candy bar. Eat actual meals. Eat breakfast. It is the most important meal of the day.

5. Study and Read

Study over your notes, previous assignments, and study guides. Make notecards and quiz yourself. Also, read the chapters of your books. Be careful not to overstuff your brain. Do as much as you can handle.

6. Relax and Take Breaks

Take time for yourself. Take a longer shower, watch an episode of your favorite Netflix series, or take a drive. Take time to participate in the end of the year activities like carnivals. Hangout with friends that distance will prevent you from seeing this summer.

7. Take Time to Pack

Remember to pack your things up. Leave out clothes for the library and classes, maybe even a few cute outfits.

8. Return Books

If you rented your textbooks online, make sure to print off the shipping label. Send them back days before they are due, so you do not get charged. If you rented from the bookstore make sure to take them back by the deadline.

9. Don't Stress

It's easier said than done, but try your best not to stress. You will do fine on your exams and your grades will be fine. Try your best and it will be enough.

We are all ready for the semester to be done, let's push through the next few weeks. Enjoy your last few weeks on campus!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
