Nothing is more exciting than traveling and experiencing a different place. Whether you're just going on vacation in New Hampshire or you decided to go to college hundreds of miles away, it is easy to find things to miss about Dartmouth. Honestly, sometimes you even miss sitting in traffic on Faunce Corner Road for what feels like 3 hours. Dartmouth is undoubtedly a unique place to grow up, and despite how exciting it is to begin new adventures there are always things you wish you could pack up and take with you. From Sunrise Bakery to taking a walk in Padanaram, here is a list of the top things to miss when you leave D-town.
1. Round Hill & Barney's Joy
In Dartmouth it isn't a matter of if you're going to the beach, it's a matter of where. Being on the coast is something that should never be taken for granted, and being close to so many beaches leaves plenty of opportunity for switching up the spots in which you decide to lay in the sun, or swim in the never-warm-enough water.
2. Sunrise Bakery
Most can't deny that they skipped at least one class at Dartmouth High to eat a linguica roll or to grab an iced coffee. Nothing is better than one of your parents bringing you home some natas when you're stressed, or being able to have a fresh marble cake with chocolate frosting on your birthday; getting Sunrise during your time back at home is something to seriously look forward to.
3. All the DNRT trails
From the Daffodil Fields in the spring to Cornell Farms' suspension bridge in the fall, all the DNRT reserves are the best to take a nature walk and clear your head. There are plenty of places to adventure with friends, and it is almost impossible to run out of places to explore, with each season bringing a different sort of beauty to each space.
4. Mirasol's Cafe
Sunday morning before spending a day shopping, or maybe spending a day doing homework, isn't complete without a Chippi or an iced chai tea latte with skim milk. Mirasol's has become the perfect meeting place for friends, and the ideal place to grab some caffeine before spending way too much time in Target.
5. 02748 vs. 02747
There is something to be said about the half joking, half serious rivalry between North and South Dartmouth. Without North Dartmouth there would be fewer DNRT trails and no mall, without South Dartmouth the beaches and best ice cream would be lost. Despite both being part of the same town and both containing integral parts of Dartmouth as, there will always be a playful rivalry the 47 and 48.
6. The food in New Bedford
No Problemo, Destination Soups, Cobblestone, Antonio's....all incredible little restaurants scattered around New Bedford and only a stone's throw away from Dartmouth. It is definitely easy to miss all the burritos, brick oven pizza, Portuguese steak, and big breakfasts New Bedford has to offer that are always a 10 minute drive away.
7. Sunsets
I'm sure everyone will argue that the sunsets in their hometown are actually the most mesmerizing. So I must say, that the sunsets over Dartmouth - particularly over the harbor - are absolutely stunning. It's hard to compete with summer nights sitting on the dock eating ice cream from The Bucket watching the sun set behind the boats.
8. Being in close proximity to Providence, Boston, and Newport
Being 1 hour from Boston, 45 minutes from Providence, and 50 minutes from Newport gives you endless possibilities on weekends or boring summer nights. Going to the Second Beach, concerts at The House of Blues, and Water Fires on Fridays all provide vastly different adventures all less than an hour away.
9. The people
Dartmouth simply wouldn't be the same without the people who occupy it. My neighbors quickly became a huge part of my life, and Christmas Eve next door is now a regular tradition. These relationships are special because no matter how exciting being away may be, you know you always have people back at home who miss you just as much as your own family.
