Some people don't like snow (never trust these people; they obviously have issues), but they live in a place that receives the magical, chilly, fluffy stuff, so they have to deal with it.
They may just dislike snow because they do not know how to properly use it to get the most enjoyment out of it. Their childlike senses have begun to dwindle as they grow into their boring adult selves, and they are unable to get enjoyment out of trying to catch rapidly falling snowflakes on their tongues.
To help you all out, here is a list of all the fun and enjoyable things you can do when the snow starts to cover the ground.
1. Let's start small. Instead of going outside and facing the dreaded snow, you can start a fire, make some hot chocolate, and cuddle up with a warm blanket on the couch. This is a great way to enjoy the snow while staying in the safety of your own home.
2. Bake some cookies. Baking is perfect when the air gets chilly and the flakes start falling. The warmth of your oven will warm the house and you will be able to watch the snow fall. Even if you hate snow, watching it fall is a beautiful and enjoyable experience.
3. Go for a walk. As long as it is not bitterly cold, a walk when the snow is gently falling around you is peaceful and wonderful. The air gets still and everything is quiet, all you can hear is your feet crunching on the freshly fallen snow.
4. Have a snowball fight. Obviously snowball fights can get cold and miserable if you do not come fully prepared and dressed for the occasion. Come prepared and enjoy pelting tightly packed snowballs and blasting your friend in the back. It is a great stress relief.
5. Build a snowman. Even if you do not enjoy building your own mini snow person, you will enjoy driving up to your house and seeing that awkward blob of a snowman, smiling that lopsided smile, with his different sized eyes and his oddly bent branch arms. And you will be proud, and then you will get sad as he starts to melt and you come home one day and his eyes will have fallen off. But just think, you can always make a new one the next time the snow falls.
6. Build a snow fort. This is for the more advanced snow builders, the ones who get bored with the simplicity of snowmen. You can do so much more with forts. You can make an igloo-style fort, with individual blocks, or you can build a tunnel style fort. Get creative and be proud of your work; this is your time to fulfill your lifelong dream of being an architect, even if it only lasts a few weeks.
7. Go snowshoeing. It is like hiking but more challenging and more entertaining. You can slide down hills on your butt, you can go off-roading and climb through knee-deep snow. You feel adventurous and goofy with the giant contraptions on your feet, keeping you above the snow.
8. Go snowboarding/skiing. If you do not know how to ski or snowboard, then learn. You won't regret it, unless of course you get injured on your first run like some people do. But it is a great way to spend time outside when snow is among us. It is fun and it is a great way to spend your day off.
9. Go sledding. This is the easiest and one of the more fun things you can do when you want to spend time in the snow. Buy a sled, find a hill, sit on the sled, and go down the hill. Make sure you find a decently sized hill, though. If you pick a baby hill, you will have as much fun as you would have if you went on all the kiddie rides at the theme park. So find yourself a big hill, get going fast, and scream. Tip for those who want to go really fast down the giant hill you found: Spray Pam on the bottom of your sled, it'll get you going and keep you going.
There is so much you can do in the snow. And even if snow is not your favorite, you can find something that you enjoy doing when the little flakes fall from the sky. Even if you do not want to go into the winter wonderland, you can spend a wonderful evening inside enjoying watching the snow while staying warm. So get out there, bring out your inner child, and play in the snow.
