Dogs are man's best friend. No argument can be made against that. They're cute and fluffy, a perfect combination of adorable and devious. They love to cuddle when you're boyfriend doesn't, and they take the best selfies with you for your Instagram. They're unconditional love for us brightens our days, even when we're in the neighbors yard picking up their waste with a tiny scented baggie. We might brag that we're the best things to have ever happened to them, but we know the real truth. They are the best things to happen to us. That's because dogs are more than just a pet, they're family.

We might have taught our dogs a few tricks, but they taught a few life lessons of their own.

1. They show us that its okay to indulge in the sweet things in life.

2. That there's nothing shameful in loving yourself, and being a little doofy about it.

3. They show you that it's OK to be the oddball banding on your own.

4. Dogs remind us that if you want confidence, you've got to own your personality.

And that it's okay to look a little different that the rest.

5. They remind us that there's absolutely nothing wrong with wanting some extra attention.

6. And they prove daily that food can fix any case of morning sleepiness or midday blues.

7. There's nothing wrong with getting a little frustrated every now and then

8. That it's okay to want to curl up under the bed somedays.

You don't have to try and conquer the world everyday.

9. But most importantly, dogs understand that life is one big giant party that needs to be enjoyed in its fullest.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead.
