If you were like me, you grew up during the Harry Potter fascination. You live for Harry Potter marathon on ABC, even though you own the whole series. You dream about going to Harry Potter World in Orlando Studios. You also waited for the books to come out like it was a holiday. Here is some things that every fan knows:
1. The face you make when someone says they don't like either the book or movie.
Seriously, how can you not like the constant excitement, the plot, and the well described characters in both. I can barely sit still during the movies and I know exactly what is going to happen!
2. The obsession of wishing Hogwarts was real.
Why wouldn't you want to go to a centuries old boarding school and learn some magic, taught by some, pardon my language, badass teachers. It must be something with the moving stairs, talking portraits, or wonderful feasts daily.
3. Quidditch envy!
I can't be the only one that watched the movie in jealousy of the actors that were able to play or at least pretend to play this game. Broomsticks, deadly bludgers and a short list of rules, might as well risk your life for some thrill!
4. The moment of realization that Snape is a good guy.
You mean I hated Snape for more than eight years for nothing? J.K. Rowling sure knows how to mess with your head and melt your heart. The snob grease ball we loved to hate turned into a innocent and love struck puppy dog.
5. The feeling of impatience when nobody actually confesses their crushes!
Ron and Hermione, we had to watch in agony as you blew it for six years! Thank you for finally giving up playing shy and making a move. Thank goodness Ginny had a brain and made the first move!
6. The lovable, grouchy Filch always gives a laugh.
Not sure if it's the cat obsession or the track star running, but I can't help but smile as he entered the room. Maybe it started as we saw his loving ways towards the ever infuriating Umbridge.
7. Dumbledore's words of wisdom are wonderful.
Throughout this series, you find many life lessons and hardships. Nobody better gets Harry or even ourselves through these times better than the wise quotes that Dumbledore may lend us. "Happiness can be found in even the darkest of times, as long as we remember to turn on the light".
8. Facing the many character deaths.
We watched as many of our beloved Hogwarts students, staff, and family passed on. Whether it was Sirius, Fred Weasley or the unforgettable Dobby, our hearts mourned while reading and witnessing these tragic deaths.
9. The heart breaking moment when you realize that it's all over.
As I watched the trio disappear and the ending credits start, it hit me that my childhood excitements had come to an end. There wouldn't be anymore anxiously waiting for another movie. No longer would I read about new adventure. But as J.K Rowling said "Hogwarts will always be there to welcome you home."
Harry Potter will always be a treasured part of my childhood. Climbing into bed and reading the books with my mom and sister or sitting on the couch with my family on rainy days were the best parts. Will we pick up a Harry Potter book or watch a movie above anything else? Always.
