I know that I don’t get the chance to tell you this as often as I should but I appreciate everything you both do for me. You both have seen me succeed & fail, yet you still love me unconditionally. I’m thankful for that.

Here are nine things that I feel I don’t thank you enough for.

One: Having us.

We dont really think about it, but whether you are pro-life or pro-choice, our parents had the choice to bring us into this world. They chose have us, and love us no matter what.

Two: Loving us.

We all know that we've made mistakes that we thought would make our parents hate us. Yet, they still love us on our good days, and even on the bad days.

Three: Supporting us:

Whether you play sports or are in a club, the support of our parents is extremely important, because if they didnt support us, who would bring us that jersey or your official dress that you left on your bed? No one, and then we would be in trouble.

Four: Believing in us:

We’ve all felt like we couldn’t do something (well at least I have). If it wasn’t for my parents belief in me I don’t think that I would’ve made it through High School.

Five: Providing for us:

Our parents, fed, changed our diapers, clothed, gave a us a home to live in. Yes, it was their decision to have us, but did they have too? No, but they chose to give you life and provided for us for as long as we needed.

Six: Being a shoulder to cry on:

No matter what life throws at us, our parents will always be there with open arms to comfort us. Whether it was hard week and you just to lay on your mom’s lap and hear her say “ It’s going to be okay & I love you” or You need to have some time with your dad, just to vent about everything. Never once have I ever felt disconnected from my parents when things got tough for me.

Seven: Thank you for the rules:

Even though I didn’t understand most of the rules I had growing up, they have shaped me into the person I am today. I hated the midnight curfew, because all my friends had a later one, but it kept me out of situations that were less than ideal. I may have not understood when I was 15, but i now know your reasoning, and appreciate it.

Eight: Teaching me to have a work ethic:

Thank you for teaching me at a young age that everything wasnt going to be handed to me. I actually had to get off my butt and work for it. It not only taught me how to prioritize my money, but to appreciate everything that I have.

Nine: Thank you for my siblings:

They are my role models and life long best friends. Thank you for blessing me with them.

Thank you for being the best, I love you more than you know.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs.
