Everyone has been awaiting those two simple, yet very important words: summer vacation. College students have returned to their parent's home during the break away from school to relax and recover from semester finals. It's nice to kick back, drink some lemonade, and enjoy the summer weather without a care in the world...until you realize that life at home is completely different from life at college. Here are 9 things every college student has (unwillingly) heard since returning home for summer:
1. "Where are you going at this time of night?"
Um...mom. It's only 9 p.m. Getting accustomed to telling your parents where you're going is a foreign concept. When you're away at college, you could be absolutely anywhere at any time, and your parents wouldn't have a clue! Now, going to grab a bite to eat after the sun goes down is like committing a crime.
2. "You're staying up until 4 a.m. and waking up at 2 p.m.??"
Duh. After staying up until ridiculous hours of the night to study, it is impossible to go to sleep at a reasonable hour. Sleeping in is a gift from God Himself, so you take advantage of every opportunity to cuddle in the sheets of your childhood bed.
3. "Why don't you do something productive instead of lounging around all day?"
Ha ha. As if I haven't slaved and toiled for the past nine months away at school to get decent grades? After constant studying at school, I think watching Netflix and eating ice cream is a well-deserved reward.
4. "It's time for you to do some chores around here. Go take out the trash..."
Who in the world was taking out the trash when I was away for months?! Sometimes I feel like parents are just happy for their kids to be personal servants at home.
5. "So, did you meet a boyyyy at college?"
Yes, mom. I met about 7,000 boys at Baylor. Next question.
6. "How did you come back with more stuff than you started with in August?"
Actually, I asked myself this same question. Besides, if you thought my bedroom was going to become the new yoga studio, think again!!
7. "What do you mean, you don't usually eat dinner until 10 p.m.?"
Sorry, but grabbing dinner at late night hours becomes a routine. I also cross two major highways for dessert at 1 a.m. on occasion, but that wasn't the question.
8. "You're really going to wear that outfit in public?"
Yes, mom. An oversized t-shirt, Nike shorts and flip flops are fashionable at college. No one is going to try to look like a model walking to English class. Let everyone see me in my natural habitat.
9. "You've changed."
Yeah, I know. For the better!
