Growing up and attending Catholic school for 16 years, you slowly become accustomed to the ins and outs of being "women and men for others". Everyone who graduates from Catholic school can understand this, there is no denying that things are different once you hit college. It isn't until you graduate that you suddenly want nothing more than to go back to the years defined by school-wide masses, singing Church songs through the halls, and comparing marks each year on Ash Wednesday. Looking back, I wouldn't trade my 16 years in Catholic school for anything else in the world, and I know for a fact that others can relate to this feeling as well.
1. Not having a uniform for the first time in your life.
Always gotta block in 20 extra minutes to choose the "perfect" outfit... Kids, enjoy the uniform days while they last.
2. You always got a go-to costume to wear for Halloween.
That old uniform you hate to love? Halloween is the perfect time to relive those khaki colored glory days.
3. Faith class is a breeze due to all your years spent studying the Bible.
Yes, I'm a Bible scholar. Next question.
4. Instantly befriending someone you see walking across campus because they are wearing their Kairos cross.
Meeting someone who lives the fourth is definitely grounds for starting a friendship.
5. Not having legendary Friday Food to look forward to when Lent rolls around.
Grilled cheese, quesadillas, pasta... you name it. We ate it. Just no meat of course.
6. School pride runs through your blood.
Ever get the sudden impulse to sing out the fight song that you shamelessly didn't fully remember until your senior year? Or tell everyone you meet that your high school football team won state? Once a Rambler, always a Rambler.
7. Church in college is nothing like what you're used to.
Belting the closing song at mass... Yep, learned the hard way that people do not normally do that.
8. You constantly tell yourself, "Work hard, prayer hard(er)".
The phrase says it all.
9. High school friends are friends for life.
Being around the same people from first grade through senior year, you learn to love. The bonds and friendships created are unlike any other I'll ever experience.
