9 Things Anyone From San Jose Will Understand

San Jose has a lot to boast, from it's anti-litter commercials to the amazingly diverse options of activities to do. It's easy to see why it is one of the happiest cities in the nation. Here's a couple things that make every citizen proud to claim it as their hometown.

1. La Vics

La Vics is the go to hangout after almost anything. The cheap prices and late hours make it a must for anyone on a budget. (and who isn't on a budget these days?)

2. Sharks don't just swim in the ocean

Sharks fans are a cult, no matter where you are, you can find a friend if you are a fan. Also Did you know that you can skate at Logitech (Aka Sharks ice)? If you didn't have birthday party here, you didn't grow up in San Jose.

3.We all ran the bases at San Jose Giants games

There were 2 things I looked forward to in the summer: 1. The pool opens 2. San Jose Giants games with my friends and family. (and who can resist going to the games when their free tickets are on every checkout stand available?)

4. It's not the holidays until you've been to Christmas in the Park

You can ice skate under palm trees and eat churros in fake snow? Who wouldn't want to do that?

5. The Berryessa Flea Market

If you didn't go to it, you knew someone who did.

6. Bass Pro is a blessing and a curse

Does anyone else completely avoid the intersection that Bass Pro is on because of the traffic? It's worth it to have this awesome store so close.

7. The field trip possibilities are endless

This is the Tech Museum, and I went here at least three times for field trips (One of them was as a senior in high school). Downtown San Jose has so many field trip opportunities that it would be hard to NOT go there during the school year.

8. It's easy to get anywhere you want to

Want to go to coffee? Great. The movies? Ya, you can get there. Home? Sure.

9. We spent summer nights cramming too many people into too small of cars to see movies at the drive in

When the indoor theater attached to this closed, everyone's heart broke a little.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
