On August 10th, 2016, my dad and step-mom welcomed a beautiful baby girl into the world. Her name is Piper Saylor, and she is currently five months old. I've always heard about big age gaps between siblings, but I never really thought further into them other than the age difference. I never thought about things that happen with the age gap, how people react or even how it affects the siblings. However, with Piper being born such a short time ago, this means that the age gap between us is– 21 years. Here's a few things that some siblings–including myself– who have a huge age gap with their siblings, experience.

1. You've already done the math of how old you'll be when they graduate high school

Honestly the thought of this makes me cringe and feel super old.

2. All of your friends love your sibling

Your sibling is like the shiny new toy that your friends want to play with all at once. But you don't mind, because it's fun to show them off.

3. Social Media gold

Putting the puppy dog filter on a baby's face??? 'Nough said.

4. You're constantly mistaken as their parent

"Yes she's cute, no she's not mine. I'm not the parent, I'm the sister."

5. Stress Relief

Whenever homework and finals starts to get heavy, it's nice to know that you can always visit home and see the always happy face of your younger sibling.

6. Throwback to your childhood

Playing with them brings you back to a time when there were no worries in a world– aka the happy days.

7. Practice for future

Even if starting a family is way, way, way down the road, having a much younger sibling comes in handy whenever it comes to knowing how to feed, change diapers and take care of them.

8. Being a role-model

Even if (at the moment) they're too young to know it, you'll be one of their role-models in life, and that's honestly the best feeling in the world.

9. Knowing that no matter how old you both get, you'll always be there.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
