I am not the first person to agree to watch a scary movie. I'd rather watch a Disney movie like "Mulan" or "Beauty and Beast." I just want to sing my heart out to "I'll Make a Man Out of You" or "Little Town." Now being in a relationship for a year, I've learned that there aren't enough Disney movies to sing along to. Last weekend, my boyfriend wanted to watch "I Am Legend." This movie has two things that I hate. First, it is post-apocalyptic. Second, I knew the dog would die. Even though "I Am Legend" has the perfect combination of terror for me, I decided to be nice and agreed to watch it, for my boyfriend's sake (I know that I put him through a lot of Disney).
An hour and forty minutes later, tears are running down my cheeks and I am terrified. I couldn't go to sleep that night. The next morning, I was tired, sad, mad, and I needed to figure out a way to get over it. Here are 9 things I like to do to get over my post-horror movie scare.
1. Tell yourself it is just a movie.
No way in your lifetime is this ever going to happen and it is very unlikely that this will ever happen at all. It is just your entertainment for the time.
2. Think of other movies.
I know for me that when I watch something scary, I think about it over and over again and can't stop. If you have a favorite movie, think of a scene that makes you laugh. It's easy to get over fear with laughter.
3. Get busy.
Get your mind off of the movie and get your work due for next week done. Fight fear with productiveness and you may even get a good grade with the motivation of getting over something.
4. Sing.
This is for the people that love signing along to movies or to the radio in the car. No way are you going to be scared after singing "Prince Ali," or jamming out to an upbeat song like "Victorious."
5. Watch baby/animal videos.
Babies are so carefree. They don't have a worry in the world at all. You could watch videos of them laughing or falling asleep in their food. If you want to go in the direction of animals, you could look up videos of sheep jumping around or cats that are afraid of cucumbers.
6. Go to the gym.
If you're stressed or frustrated, working out is a great release. If you're still thinking about the scary people in that horror movie, go on the treadmill and pretend they're chasing you. You'd be surprised how far you can run. Use it as motivation, and you may even be getting a great exercise!
7. Watch bloopers of the movie that has you scared.
Watching the bloopers of the movie can show you that the movie is just a movie. The actors are not focusing on killing the creatures. Instead, they might be laughing about the masks the creatures wear. Watching the bloopers can give you a whole different perspective of the movie and you may find that the attitude towards the movie has changed.
8. Watch "Scary Movie."
Scary Movie is the best to watch if you want to get over any movie. The movie makes you laugh so hard by pointing out the stupid things in a movie. Maybe next time you watch that movie, you may be thinking of 'Scary Movie'.
9. Watch a Disney movie.
What better way to get over a scary movie than to put on a Disney movie? This is what I should've done last weekend. This weekend I'm getting back and I'm making my boyfriend watch Peter Pan and he better sing along and do it happily.
