Although it can become a task to survive 24/7, some days stick out more than others. Maybe someone held the door for you on your way to class on Tuesday morning, or perhaps the brisk, 30 degree weather Wednesday night turned into a cool and sunny 70 degrees on Thursday afternoon. Whatever it may be, some factors effect a person’s day more than another. But when our days are a bit brighter than they normally are, we get a feeling that is very difficult to put into our own words. I know when I’m having an abnormally good day, I turn to music for a way of explaining just how I’m feeling. Between a mixture of vocals, rhythms, and lyrics, sometimes a song has a way of describing your good day better than you ever could yourself. Here are nine songs that do just that.
1. "Freedom" - Allen Stone
Ah, yes — we meet yet again, Mr. Stone. I don’t think there is any other musician who can make such happy, heartfelt songs as Allen Stone. “Freedom” will undoubtedly get you smiling from cheek to cheek on your perfect day.
2. "Something To Believe In" - Parachute
No, I am not talking about a literal parachute, people. Parachute is a band from Charlottesville, Virginia and their music from the early 2000s have some awesome jams that can be blasted at full volume on your happy day. “Something To Believe In” never fails to make me feel awesome. Note: I uncontrollably get out of my seat and dance during the bridge of this song, so please keep that in mind before listening (especially if you are in a public place).
3. "Let The Good Times Roll" - Ben Rector
Ben Rector is yet another prime example of a musician who creates heartfelt music with incredible passion and dedication. Off of his fourth studio album "Something Like This," “Let The Good Times Roll” is an instant happy song that will not let you down.
4. "12 Fingers" - Young the Giant
Although a number of you probably have never heard of Young the Giant until this very moment, it’s okay because now you know! “12 Fingers” is a tough song to try to dissect and understand, but it has a vibe that can be relatable when you’re having an extra good day.
5. "It Don't Matter" - Cody Simpson
I know what you’re thinking, Cody Simpson!? Well, Simpson has surpassed his high pitched pop song days and has matured into quite the musician. His newest album, "Free," is filled with acoustic and feel-good songs that is unlike anything Simpson has ever put out before. “It Don’t Matter” is the perfect song to blast on a day you won't let anything bad matter to you!
6. "Best I Ever Had" - Gavin Degraw
Although this song has a bit of a country twist to it, “Best I Ever Had” is always a song I blast during the first few days of spring. I also will usually play it at full blast in my car, all four windows down, screaming the lyrics at the top of my lungs (which is sometimes distracting to other drivers — so do so cautiously).
7. "Boston" - Augustana
This song is a bit different from the rest of the songs I’ve listed so far. “Boston” isn’t the typical upbeat happy song, but it still gets the job done. It has a beautiful build up to it — by that I mean it starts slow but gradually picks up its pace, first by starting with just a piano and eventually adds in some guitars and drums. On my best day, I will always listen to this song.
8. "Superstition" - Stevie Wonder
If you’re a human being, you probably know this song already. Although some may say it is a bit outdated, it will always be one of my go to songs for when I’m in a good mood.
9. "Perfect World" - Allen Stone
I did my best to try to not repeat an artist, but I couldn’t make this list without this song. “Perfect World” is off of Stone’s album "Radius." It is probably the most feel-good song I know. The lyrics are spot on and perfectly describe the feeling of a perfect day in a single song. One lyric I have to point out is as follows: “On a perfect day at the perfect time, when those beautiful colors combine, I’ll be wide awake, I’ll be living free cause that perfect feeling is inside of me”. It is such a simple lyric, yet it describes what this whole list of songs is about — a person’s perfect day.
And so now, when you’re feeling a bit brighter than usual, these are the songs to turn to right away. If you’re down and need a pick-me-up, these too are the songs you can turn to. Listen to them, share them with your loved ones, and let them help you feel good — because everyone deserves that feeling!
