Everyone has a playlist that will make them realize the whole point of the phrase “carpe diem.” We all have to pump ourselves up sometimes. Whether you have a big presentation, an interview, or just a regular day, music gives us confidence.
“Don’t look up. Just let them think there’s no place else you’d rather be.”
Paramore can rock anybody’s world at any time of day, but there is something about "Fences" that makes us feel like we can actually deal with the day. Hayley Williams just reminds us that we are on display, and we have to fake it till we make it (which is basically what we do with coffee).
2. "Seventeen Ain't So Sweet" -- The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus
“And even though it seemed like the world was crashing on her, didn’t let it hold her down, didn’t hold her back, oh no. Don’t worry, you’ll show them”
The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus may be a bit of a throwback, but this song is incredibly encouraging. It tells us that we can conquer the worst parts of our day because we really have that strength inside of us. We have the ability to overcome the doubts of the pessimists in our lives.
3. "Songs Like This" -- Carrie Underwood
“And if you hadn’t gone and done me wrong, I wouldn’t go off like this. Yeah, even I’m surprised how easy sweet revenge rolls off my lips.”
Carrie Underwood can get us riled up with her. Her anger in her songs seeps through the speakers. It gets our emotions spiked, and it may not be the most positive way to start the morning. However, when we listen to this song, the only acceptable response is, “yeah Carrie, you’re right.” Her determination makes us feel like we need to also need to be determined.
“You hear my voice; you hear that sound like thunder gonna shake the ground. You held me down, but I got up. Get ready ‘cause I’ve had enough.”
Katy Perry emits the best kind of self-empowerment. She is all about winning every battle that we have to face. If there is any song that makes us feel like we can handle whatever life throws at us, "Roar" is it.
5. "Radioactive" -- Imagine Dragons
“I raise my flag and dye my clothes. It’s a revolution I suppose. We’re painted red to fit right in.”
Imagine Dragons have a ridiculously unique sound. "Radioactive" makes us believe we can outlast any bad thing that is thrown our way. We may be down to our last notch of hope, but we can all be a part of this new world that’s coming when all the old things fade away.
“So, so what? I’m still a rock star. I’ve got my rock moves, and I don’t need you.”
"So What" reminds us that we are rock stars. We don’t need anyone in our lives if they don’t want to be there. It reminds us that we are awesome in the midst of chaotic times.
“Tonight we’re going hard just like the world is ours. We’re tearin’ it apart, you know we’re superstars, we are who we are.”
Ke$ha adamantly reminds us in this song that the world is ours for the taking. We can be conquerors covered in glitter. She also tells us that we are supposed to be having fun. If we aren’t trying to have fun in every aspect of our lives, are we really living?
8. "Bad Blood" -- Taylor Swift
“Now did you think it all through? All these things will catch up to you and time can heal, but this won’t. So if you’re coming my way just don’t.”
"Bad Blood" makes us feel like we are preparing for a full blown war. We are ready to go to battle to defend ourselves from the people that are trying to cut us down. This Taylor Swift song may not give us a super positive outlook, but it rocks our world because the music and lyrics make us feel like we cannot be defeated.
9. "Have a Nice Day" -- Bon Jovi
“I’m gonna live my life. Shining like a diamond, rolling with the dice, standing on the ledge, I show the wind how to fly.”
Bon Jovi really tells us how to seize the day. We have to live our life moment by moment. We can’t just watch our days pass us by. We have to live life to its fullest potential. We must conquer our fears and face our demons.
