Everyone needs a good cry from time to time, but sometimes the right songs are required to get everything into motion. As a girl who is happily in a relationship (and prior to this, hasn't been through many), breakup songs don't quite do the trick for me. Unfortunately, most Spotify playlists out there are filled to the brim with what feels like just about every breakup song ever written. So, for those of you like me who are sad over anything other than love, here are nine songs to cry to (that aren't about relationships).
1. I Remember Her -Ingrid Michaelson
Still a song about the loss of someone, but not the loss of a past relationship.
2. Dead -Jukebox the Ghost
The kind of song to make you question everything you've ever done.
3. Not My Father's Son -Kinky Boots
Songs from Broadway musicals are one of the most underrated heart-breakers. This one is for anyone who just isn't what their parents may have expected them to be.
4. Make Me a Robot Tessa Violet
For those times when human emotions are just so overwhelming that you'd give them all up without thinking twice.
5. yes girl -Bea Miller
One of those songs to shout at the top of your lungs when you just don't know who you are anymore.
6. 6/10 -Dodie Clark (see what I did there?)
A song about those times when you don't feel good enough.
(Unfortunately, this one isn't available on Spotify, but you can find it on Youtube here )
7. Adulthood -Jukebox the Ghost (Thump Sessions)
You don't think to mourn the loss of the child in you until it's too late.
8. Car Radio -Twenty One Pilots
For when you just can't stop the voices in your head.
9. Everyone is Gonna Love Me Now -Ingrid Michaelson
I saved what is quite possibly the best for last, this is a song for when everything is crashing down and you feel more alone than you ever have before.
If you want to give these songs a go, here is a Spotify playlist containing all but one (6/10 can be found on Youtube at the link below the song)
