This fall is jam packed with season premieres of new shows and old favorites. I also added a few of my must-sees from Netflix to the list incase you are more of a binge-watcher versus watching TV shows on air. I hope you enjoy these shows as much as I did and will be watching some of the premieres along side me this month!

1. Stranger Things

This Sci-Fi thriller is an 8-episode series of brilliance. Stranger Things has just enough thrill to make your skin crawl and your mind twist. Having similar roots to the 2008 movie Super 8, the show has everything from an “upside-down” world to an abandoned girl with Telekinesis. You will fall in love with the production and plot twists just as much as you do the characters. A must-see, especially if you are looking for a small series that can fill your Netflix-fix without binge watching 8 seasons.

2. Atlanta

A fresh series that stars Donald Glover, an actor as well as a musician in Childish Gambino. The new show Atlanta is taking a modern approach to the classic street vs. professional life when young rappers try to make a start in one of the most profound cities for the music industry. Catch the series premiere on September 6th.

3. American Horror Story

Quite possibly the most intriguing show on television, American Horror Story is premiering their 6th season this month. With various teasers that seem to have no correlation, writers Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk are leaving this series' theme a mystery. This season is said to have darker undertones, and is perfect for those looking for a horror fix this fall. The best part about this series is that each season is different. Therefore, even if you haven’t seen the past five, you can jump on the bandwagon a little late and have no problem. What’s the gruesome theme going to be this year?

4. Scream Queens

What sounds like a horror show is actually a rich comedy that keeps you both on your toes and laughing your socks off at the same time. With a diverse cast running from Emma Roberts to Jamie Lee Curtis, the plot and characters are light and laugh-worthy while occasionally throwing in some gory plot twists and comical drama. The greatest part about this show is that there is nothing else like it on air, which is what makes it all the more enjoyable to watch.

5. Modern Family

Modern Family is quite the series coming up on their eighth series this month. With an incredible cast and hilarious story line, the show introduces both family-friendly, light-hearted themes with some underlying adult humor. This show is by far the best comedy on television, and you don’t have to keep up with all of the seasons to know what’s going on. The plot is easy to follow and has something for everyone.

6. Chicago PD

Good cop, bad cop? Crime shows were taken to a new level with this spin-off of Chicago Fire. This drama features intense and realistic situations in the city of Chicago while also defining the importance of integrity and companionship. Jam-packed with unexpected turns, you never know how long your favorite character will stay, or what they will get themselves wrapped up in next! Although the relationship drama may get confusing, the plot is fairly easy to pick up if you are a few seasons behind. An emotional roller-coaster and an amazing crime show!

7. Bates Motel

Creepy, small-town thrillers have just been taken to a new level. Follow Norma and Norman Bates on their journey to find security and sanity as two of the most insecure and insane characters you will come to know. Their search for new beginnings ends up taking them back to the depths of their past and beyond. A crazy thriller that will keep you guessing, Bates Motel has five seasons up on Netflix so you can get all caught up just in time for their Season 6 premiere, rumored to air towards the beginning of 2017.

8. Scream

Everyone has heard at some point about the classic Scream horror movies. The masked figure is back again, but this time in a modernized light. MTV’s Scream TV show takes murder and betrayal into a different realm, keeping your mind boggled and your mouth dropped. If you like a show with a surprise around every corner, this is the one for you.

9. Breaking Bad

If you haven’t hopped on the Breaking Bad popularity trend just yet, it’s not too late. Sure the series has ended, but it still has a high demand on Netflix. With a brilliant plot that incorporates intense thrills, jaw-dropping drama, and comedic relief, Breaking Bad produces incredible characters and astounding events that will leave you stunned for days. This show will keep you hooked from beginning to end, and never fails to reach new heights.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs.
