Summer is the best time of the year. After two full semester of hard school work, it is a time where you can finally relax, get some quality time in the sunshine, hang out with friends you haven't seen all year, and spend time with your family. Summer is also a great time to start new TV series and reinvigorate your relationship with Netflix. You know you've missed Netflix during those finals weeks where you were cheating on it with textbooks -- or maybe you're just looking to spice things up and try something new. Regardless, here are some sweet shows to satisfy your cravings during the summer:
1. "Parks and Recreation."
My personal favorite TV series about a bunch of government employees in Pawnee, Indiana. It never fails to make me laugh, and if you're looking for something lighthearted that you will immediately become obsessed with, "Parks and Rec" is it.
2. "Orange is the New Black."
With the new season premiering on June 17, you have plenty of time to watch the other seasons to prepare yourself. OITNB is about a group of women in a prison in upstate New York. It's raunchy, racy, and totally hilarious -- a must see for basically anyone living in the 21st century.
3. "The Office."
"The Office" (the US version) is a series about a group of people working at the Dunder Mifflin paper supplier in Scranton, Penn. The humor is extremely dry, so if that is up your alley this show is for you.
4. "Freaks and Geeks"
Even though there are only 12 episodes, this series has developed a cult following The show focuses on Lindsay and Sam, brother and sister, and their groups of friends, the freaks and geeks. It was produced by Judd Apatow, so it has the style of humor often associated with his movies and TV shows, along with an awesome cast that features Seth Rogen, James Franco, Martin Starr, and Linda Cardellini.
5. "Louie."
Louis CK is one of my favorite comedians, and his show is absolutely hilarious. Although the format was originally hard for me to get used to, I like the mixture of stand-up and segments of unconnected scenes, but nonetheless, it is a great show if you are looking for something comical.
6. "Jane the Virgin."
If nothing else, watch this series because Justin Baldoni is one of the most attractive men to walk the face of the Earth. I will be honest, when I started "Jane the Virgin," I had pretty low expectations. But after the first episode, I was completely sucked it. It's a modern telenovela with a dramatic and intricate story line, a perfect series to start during the summer.
7. "Breaking Bad."
If you still haven't seen this series, you have to watch it. I watched the full marathon one weekend before Christmas and watched the entire series in three days. It is one of the most well-written and well-acted shows one television. A must see.
8. "Scrubs."
If you're looking for a medical show that is not as a sappy and dramatic as "Grey's Anatomy," then "Scrubs" is your show. It's funny, lighthearted, and always makes you feel warm on the inside.
9. "Portlandia."
This show is definitely an acquired taste. It is sometimes very bizarre and hard to follow, but it is a satirical comedy so if that is your style then check it out!
