1. Providence Place Mall
The biggest place in the state is definitely a must-see. With 4 floors of shops, restaurants and even a movie theatre right in the heart of the city, the mall is always a great place to hangout.
2. The Alex and Ani City Center
If you love to ice skate, don’t miss the chance to slide around with your friends right in the middle of downtown. Be prepared to dress warmly since it is an outdoor rink!
3. Thayer Street
Want to try some of the most culturally unique streets in Rhode Island? Thayer street on the east side of Providence provides quite the combination of shops and restaurants. Want to try pizza with baked potato on it? Try Antonio’s. What about a temporary henna tattoo? Spectrum India has you covered. Weaved within the campus of Brown University, Thayer street has so much to offer.
4. The Beaches
Every state is better in the summer, including Rhode Island. With beaches only 40 minutes away from downtown, it sure is convenient to travel to the coast. With many amazing seafood restaurants like Aunt Carrie’s and Iggy’s within a 5 minute drive from the beaches, it’s easy to make a day at the beach.
5. The Mansions
If you want an engaging historical tour of the state, definitely check out the mansions. Come see the vacation homes of New York elites like the Vanderbilts at The Breakers or the Rosecliff that is modeled after the garden retreat center of the French king of Versailles. These breathtakingly beautiful homes definitely make a day well spent.
6. The Newport Cliff Walk
If you’re someone who enjoys nature walks or just sightseeing in general, the Newport Cliff Walk is for you.The trail takes its hikers along the coast of Narragansett and even around the backyard of many of the mansions. This 3.5 mile trail goes across dirt paths, actual rocks and wooden steps to the water edge. Make sure to bring a snack, lots of water and your sneakers!
7. The Drive In
The Rustic Drive In is like a scene out of a movie. You pull your car up to a giant screen, tune your radio and can now watch a hit movie from the comfort of your own car (or trunk!).
8. The Dunkin Donuts Center
Whether you want to see a concert, the circus, a Providence Bruins or PC Friars game, the Dunkin Donuts Center has you covered. Seeing a performance at One LaSalle Square is always a treat.
9. The Providence Performing Arts Center
Seeing a ballet or play in this world renowned theater is something any tourist shouldn't miss. The unbelievable architecture is even more eye-catching than the talent onstage.
