9 Reasons Winter Is The Best

It's the most wonderful time of the year

t's kind of hot out and it's got me a little grumpy so I thought I would go over the best parts of my favorite season to cool down (or more likely make me want winter even more, but oh well).

Snow!

I really love snow. It's sparkly, elegant, and fluffy (although anyone who's ever been skiing or snowboarding knows it isn't nearly as fluffy as it looks). Snow can turn even the most ugly and dirty of landscapes into a winter wonderland. I even love snow enough to overcome my usual hesitant attitude towards sports and go skiing and snowboarding.

No more bugs

Mosquitoes, bees, wasps, all those little buzzing and biting creatures seem to mostly disappear with colder weather.

Sweaters

Sweaters are soft, cozy, and cute. When the leaves start to turn I start pulling out my collection.

Boots

I don't really like shoes, I'd go around barefoot all of the time if I could, but I make an exception for boots. There's just something about them that makes me feel elegant and tough. Also, I can wear heels without feeling like they're going to fall off or I'm going to fall over.

Christmas

Christmas is my favorite holiday of the year. There are all kinds of fun movies on television and there are decorations everywhere. I also have an excuse to do all the baking I want. Now that I'm at college I also get the opportunity to go home, sleep in a bed I can stretch out in, and spend time with my family. And I do have to admit that the presents are nice too.

My birthday

Okay, so this one doesn't exactly apply to everyone, but I consider it a perk.

Blankets

I'm not sure if there is anything better than snuggling up in a giant pile of fluffy blankets and feeling nice and cozy no matter how cold it may be outside.

Allergies ease up

I don't know about you but I have really been struggling with allergies since about March. I'm really looking forward to not sneezing and feeling stuffy all the time.

Mint

Everyone seems to be very excited about pumpkin spice but what I'm looking forward to is all the mint that starts to appear as Christmas time comes around. One of my favorite kinds of candy is milk chocolate mint M&Ms, and they only seem to be available around Christmas. The dark chocolate mint variety hangs around all year but I'm more of a milk chocolate fan.

What are you looking forward to? Or are you more of a summer person? Whatever your preference let me hear it.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
