Everyone at one time in their life was completely and utterly obsessed with something, whether it was a fictional character or an action figure. For me, I woke up one day and had an epiphany that I absolutely had to have a turtle. These are a few of the reasons why:

1. They're cute.

Turtles are the cutest little creatures, and they have a little bit of personality. Most turtles are shy and don't really like to be played with or taken out of their environment, but this is what makes them so cute. You look at them, and you can see in their eyes that they probably don't like you, yet you can't help but love them dearly.

2. They're cheap.

Turtles are fairly cheap compared to the average household pet that you would buy for your child. They are easy to care for and you can find them in most pet stores.

3. They're easy to take care of.

Turtles are easy to maintain. All you have to do is feed them, give them space, and leave them alone.

4. You can take them anywhere.

Turtles are small and easily accessible. You can take them anywhere with you without being inconvenienced.

5. They will not hurt you.

They are harmless animals, if we're referring to the kind of turtle that you would purchase as a pet. You wouldn't want to bring home a snapping turtle to your family, but any found at your local pet store are great.

6. You can buy cute turtle stuff.

There are knickknacks available for turtles like you wouldn't believe. Turtle stuff is everywhere if you look. This makes it easy for others to buy you things, because they know that you'll always enjoy a good turtle keychain. You can also buy your significant other a shirt that will not only express your love for one another, but your love for turtles as well.

7. They teach you to be responsible.

By owning a turtle, you become responsible and you learn to take care of something other than yourself at whatever age. They're easier than a dog, but just as important.

8. They will be your instant best friend.

What more can I say?

9. They're always there to listen.

You can always rely on your turtle. They will always be there for you to listen and grieve with you, to "shellabrate" with you and to cry with you. Having a turtle will be the best thing that will ever happened to you.

People come and go, but turtles stay forever. Unless they run away, and in that case they won't get very far before you notice. Buy a turtle!

Parks and Recreation excitedly gathered around a laptop at a table in an office setting.

The library. Club lib. The place every college student goes when they want to try and be a productive member of society. Who better to explain your experience than Parks and Rec?

1. When you've finally found the energy to leave your dorm room and walk into the lib like

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

Students walking on a sunny college campus with trees and buildings.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
