9 Reasons Why You Should Go To Temple University

"The owl of the night makes the eagle of the day."

-Russel Conwell, Temple University's founder

Temple University has an endless amount of reasons why it holds a special place in all of our hearts. Here are just nine reasons why we are all proud to call ourselves Temple Owls, and nine reasons why you should too.

1. You would live in Philly!

There is no way you could ever complain that you are bored with Center City located less than 2 miles away. There you could find the best shops, food and entertainment at all hours of the day. There are endless opportunities and such a variety of things to do, boredom is never an option!

2. Speaking of variety...

Temple University is one of the most diverse campuses in the nation! There are people from just over 100 countries that are in our current student body. So pay attention in class, you may learn some things from people you never would have encountered from countries you may have never even heard of.

3. Traveling (studying) abroad.

Temple gives us plenty of chances to explore the world and study abroad. Temple has campuses in Rome, Japan and Spain to study for either the entire semester or six weeks during the summer. This would be a chance to take new classes, meet new friends, and create timeless memories.

4. Finding your home.

There are over 300 clubs on campus, so you can always find where you truly belong. From Greek life, to student government, volunteering and just recreational purposes, you will find a club (or like four) that will make you feel right at home.

5. T For Temple U!

Attending Temple comes with attending games, lots and lots of games. Waking up on a Saturday morning, painting the Temple T on your face and rooting for our owls at the Linc are some irreplaceable memories. Also, with our basketball team being ranked fifth in all time wins, and head coach Fran Dunphy named the American Athletic Conference coach of the year for the 2014-2015 season, how could you not want to walk to the Liacouras Center to support? There is no better feeling in chanting "I believe that we have won" after a game, because we will #AlwaysBelieve!

5. To get an amazing education.

How could I almost forget the most important part of college (obviously), the actual education! Our business school is one of the best, actually in the top 15% of best business schools in 2015 according to US News. Also, Temple's School of Medicine successfully removed the HIV virus from cultured human cells, the first ever to do so. In 2012, the Tyler School of Art was ranked No. 13 in the nation. So whether you are in Fox, CST, Tyler, or everything in between, Temple is nationally competitive, and remains on top academically.

6. Be a part of tradition.

With Temple being over 125 years old, tradition is everywhere. From the famous Temple "T" the owl, our alma mater, the cherry crusade, acres of diamonds, and homecoming, Temple continues its traditions throughout the years and you will become a part of it!

7. Make incredible memories.

Going off reason two, you will meet your closest friends while at Temple. Whether it is hanging out on Beury beach, living at the tech during finals week, trying to get on a cardio machine at IBC, getting late night pizza at Philly Style/Maxi's/City View, waiting for free Dunkin' in that long line after an Eagles win, or coming home from a night out, you will create the most priceless, funniest and best memories that could not happen elsewhere besides Temple University!

8. To be a part of something more.In the past few years, Hootathon is growing to be an incredible tradition. It is a twelve hour dance marathon which raises money and awareness for the Child Life Department at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. We dance to celebrate the lives saved, and we also dance to remember the lives lost. Every cent made makes a difference, miracles happen every day. Last year we raised $119,539.14 and this year's fundraising goal is $215,000. Hootathon has become a new tradition on campus that students look forward to every year. Become a part of Temple's newest tradition.

9. Become a member of a huge alumni association.

Upon graduating, you become a member of TUAA with over 80,000 living alumni represented in over 143 countries and all 50 states. So no matter where you end up in life, a Temple Owl is nearby. Once a Temple Owl, always a Temple Owl!

LET'S GOOOO T U!

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?
