1. The Cold

I am one of those people who prefer the cold over the heat any day! I’ve rather be bundled up in layers in the chilly weather than be melting in the humid heat.

2. Christmas

How could you not love Christmas? It’s the most wonderful time of the year spending time with loved ones plus there’s tons of food, presents, and joy.

3. The Beautiful, Fluffy Snow

The soft delicacy of the snow just amazes me with its beauty as it falls. It’s such a beautiful sight to watch from my window and to wake up to.

4. Ice-Skating Season

I’ve always loved watching figure skaters skate gracefully on the ice. It's astonishing how they perform their tricks so smoothly. You don’t need to be a pro to ice skate. Ice-skating is a lot of fun honestly even for a beginner. You may fall several times, but keep getting up and you’ll get the hang of it.

5. There are no bugs

I hate mosquitoes, bees, or any type of bug. Anytime I’m stung, I always end up with an insane inching bite the size of my thumb. I know bugs are essential to nature, but come on. One season without them is paradise for me.

6. Hot cocoa

Hot cocoa with marshmallows is essential during the cold season. The chocolatey warm beverage keeps you warm and cozy and making you feel like a kid again.

7. Snow Days!

No matter what school year you are in, hearing that a big snow storm is in the weather forecast only gives you one thought “NO SCHOOL!” Instead of having to commute in the mess, you get to enjoy it.

8. Winter Break!

As a college student, winter break is always anticipated by us. The one month of no class is just a blessing. No homework, more sleep, Christmas, vacation, and so on. It’s literally the greatest time of the year.

9. My Birthday

*cough cough* I was born in the midst of a big snowstorm. I’m basically a winter baby at heart, which explains my cold soul. I’m just kidding or am I?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
