9 Reasons Why I Was Late

Late to work, to class, to life in general…

9 Reasons Why I Was Late

I’ve tried everything. I set my clocks and watches at least 10 minutes fast. I have alarms starting from two hours before I need to get up until the absolute last minute before I have to leave my home. I’m not sure what it is, but without fail I am always late to something. Whether it’s work, class or anything else it’s pretty safe to assume that I’m running at least 10 minutes behind.

While I am working on my punctuality, there are several reasons why I seem to regularly find myself in a delayed state.

1. Putting on pants was a problem for my future self

Pants are pretty restrictive in nature. It takes a lot of mental preparation to get committed enough to an activity to actually put on pants.

2. There was a centipede in my room.

I couldn’t leave until I knew it was dead. What if I came back and it was still alive and living in my room and I didn’t know where it was… forever?

3. “Car troubles”

Honestly, I don’t have a good excuse, nor do I fully understand why I’m running late, so here’s what I’m going to tell you.

4. Car troubles

Sometimes it actually happens.

5. I just wasn't feeling well earlier...

Sometimes, you just need some extra time to yourself to just re-energize before you can do anything else. Sometimes, you just need some extra time to be horizontal.

6. I left my brain in my other head today

You know when you’re so frantic that you seem to keep forgetting everything you need? And every time you’re about to leave you realize that you’ve forgotten something else?

7. I had to get coffee.

You wouldn’t try to drive your car without gas, right?

8. I honestly couldn’t figure out how to get out of the situation I was just in

There just wasn’t a good way to say, “Hey, this is cool and all but I really have to leave.”

9. It’s just who I am as a person…

Speaks for itself

Whatever the reason, I'd like to think that nine times out of 10, I have a reasonable enough excuse for being late. Whether or not others agree it's a work in progress...

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

For many undergraduates across the nation, the home stretch has begun. Only one more semester remains in our undergraduate career. Oh, the places we will go! For the majority of college seniors, this is simultaneously the best and worst year out of the past four and here’s why.

1. The classes you are taking are actually difficult.

A schedule full of easy pottery throwing and film courses is merely a myth on the average campus. With all of those prerequisites for the upper-level courses and the never-ending battle you fight each year during registration for limited class seats, senior year brings with it the ability to register for the final courses you need to fulfill your major. Yet, these are not the easy entry level courses. These are the comprehensive, end of major, capstone courses designed to apply the knowledge from all your previous courses, usually in the form of an extensive research paper or engaged learning project. The upside is you actually probably really enjoy these classes but alas there is no room for slackers here.
