I know what you're thinking. Writing? For fun? During your free time? You can't think of anything less productive and boring. You might ask yourself why do you need to write? There's no need to write when you can simply just remember everything that you would be writing down. I'm here to tell you just a few of the many benefits writing can have.

1. Remembering the little things

Writing helps you remember things more vividly. Sure, you might recall that time you and your significant other spontaneously started dancing. But how closely do you remember how you felt. How his cologne clung to your shirt and the taste of his kiss lingered long after he dropped you off at home. Your memory can’t remember all these small, precious details.

2. It helps you grocery shop

It can be a really big stretch for our brains to remember whether or not there is milk already in the fridge. Should you buy another gallon? But if you already have one you will be stuck with two full gallons. You'll have to start feeding the stray cats you would have so much milk. If you don't buy one, then you'll be stuck debating the possibility that Rice Krispies might not taste that bad with orange juice. There is a solution to avoid this catastrophe, just write down a grocery list.

3. Handwriting notes can help your studies

Writing things down a few times helps your brain remember things more clearly. Have you ever heard of a photographic memory?

4. Keeping a journal gives you a sense of achievement

It gives you a clear record of the past. This way you can reflect on the decision-making you had. By doing this it even gives you a record of the achievements that you have made.

5. It helps you accomplish your goals

Writing down the goals that you have will make you commit to them. It will also remind you of them when you see them written down and make you accountable for achieving them.

6. Writing frees up brain room

Your brain is similar to a hard drive. It's hard to always remember all the things you need to do, especially if you are a busy person. If you write what you need to do down in a planner, you can mentally forget that you must remember it by memory.

7. Writing reduces anxiety

Just by seeing words on paper can help you come to a conclusion about a problem. If you're debating whether or not you should do something, try by making a pro and con list. This way you can weigh the positives and negatives to see which one is more prominent.

8. It boosts your creativity levels

While writing you might be inspired to draw a doodle next to your grocery list. Soon after you have more doodles filling the page than a list. But that's okay!

9. Keeps track of ideas

If you are anything like me, your best ideas come when you least expect them. Whether you are driving around town or in mid conversation. Writing them down in one list keeps track of them all so you don't forget your ideas!

Writing something as simple as a list can go a long way. Pick up a pen and paper and start writing. You will be surprised at how much more you will get done and feel motivated to do. After all, "the worst thing you write is better than the best thing you didn't write." -Anonymous

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.

Yes, it IS a sport. Yes, I fall all the time. No, I do not ride in jeans with a cowgirl hat on.

Growing up I have always wanted to own a horse. My grandparents own a well known equestrian facility in Georgia, so I have been riding since I was born. A bond between a person and their horse is a bond so strong that it cannot be broken. Everywhere I went I wanted to be around horses, even forcing my family to go on trail rides during vacations. Horses have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember has taught me great responsibility, as well as 14 things that all equestrians can relate to.

College is super hard. Between working, studying, and having a social life, it feels like a struggle to just keep afloat.

I understand. When you feel like your drowning and there's no way to stay afloat I understand that it feels like everyone else is doing just fine. I understand all the frustration, long nights in the library, and that feeling that you want to just throw in the towel. I understand that sometimes it's too hard to get out of bed because your brain is already filled with too much information to remember. I understand because I am also feeling pretty burnt out.

No Matter How Challenging School Gets, You Have To Put Your Health First — A Degree Won't Mean Anything If You're Dead

Some of the best advice I've ever received was from my social studies teacher in sophomore year of high school. He stated, "If you don't know it at midnight, you're not going to know it for the 8 a.m. exam, so get some sleep."

It's such a simple piece of advice, but it holds so much accuracy and it's something that the majority of college students need to hear and listen to. "All-nighters" are a commonality on college campuses in order to cram in studying for an exam that is typically the next day.
