9 Reasons Why I'm Ready To Go Back To School

August is here and that means...school is starting again!

Summer has been work-filled and very exciting with great memories, but I'm ready to go back to Stephens College, my second home. I'll be back there in about two weeks and here are just a few reasons I'm excited to go back.

1. I've missed my friends from school.

While some of my friends weren't as far away as others, I've been pretty busy working this summer. I'm excited to go back to school where I'll still work pretty often, but see them on an almost everyday basis on campus.

2. I've been excited about the classes I signed up for since I signed up for them.

Fingers crossed that I remember to turn in the paperwork to take that Spanish class at Miz. But hey, at least I get to take ASL this year -- WOOHOO!

3. New year, new room, new roommate!

Last year was awesome and I loved my room and roommate. However, I'm super excited for this coming year since I've had a year of knowing what life is like on campus!

4. Dorm decorating.

I've been contemplating how I want to express myself via my half of the room this coming year. I have so many posters and ideas on how to decorate and I just can't wait!

5. I'm an OGL this year!

So, an OGL is an Orientation Group Leader. I basically get to help welcome in the incoming freshmen and make their orientation as awesome as possible! I had one last year and I had a whole lot of fun during my orientation week. I also get to move in a week early with them!

6. School events all the time.

I've done some really awesome, fun things this summer like #TWRPhillyTakeover, but I have been working almost every day since June. I'm excited for different events on campus all the time whether it's a midnight breakfast during midterms/finals weeks or a Decorate-a-doorstop event.

7. Making late-night runs...

...to get food. I can leave my dorm and come back basically whenever without feeling bad that I'll wake my family up.

8. New school supplies and DIYs.

I already bought some new notebooks and I've been keeping up with my favorite YouTubers who are already posting their back to school DIYs.

9. Autumn is just around the corner!

Autumn is my favorite season because it's not too hot or cold. I also love the colors of the season and it just brings me the warm fuzzy feelies.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
