Growing up in the suburbs of Chicago, I never thought much of the city. It was fun to take the train in and go to the American Girl Doll Store with my mom when I was little and go to the occasional Cubs game with my dad, but other than that, it was just the city to me. As I grew up though, and especially when I moved away for college, I realized how truly special Chicago is and why it's hands down the best city in America.

1. The Pizza
The war between deep dish and thin crust is never-ending, but in my opinion, you can't beat deep dish and Chicago does it the best. Whether you're chowing down on Lou Malnati's or Giordano's, you really can't go wrong.
2. The Sports
No matter what type of sports you follow, Chicago has it all from football and baseball to basketball and hockey. We may not always be the best, but we get an A+ for team spirit, and there's nothing like the rivalry between the Cubs and the Sox! (GO CUBS GO!)
3. The Seasons
Yes, it can get pretty darn cold during the winter, but there's nothing quite as breathtaking as the city with all the Christmas lights strung up as snow
4. The Beaches
Although they don't look like a Caribbean beach, the beaches in Chicago are still super fun and lively throughout the summer. Not to mention, they're a great way to cool off from the heat!
5. The Tourist Attractions
Even living so close to the city, I find myself enjoying the things that a regular tourist would normally do. There are museums, Segway
6. Hot Dogs
Back to food, there's nothing quite like a Chicago-style hot dog. Just give it a chance and go to Portillo's.
7. St. Patrick's Day
When we do something, we do it big. Like dying the Chicago River green for St. Patrick's Day. It really pops amidst all those skyscrapers
8. The Art
I don't know much about art, but I do know that you can find it at just about every street corner in Chicago. Whether you're taking a cute picture in front of Cloud Gate (better known as "The Bean") or playing in the Crown Fountain where people on a video screen spit water at you, get out there and enjoy it!
9. The Sears Tower
Any true Chicagoan will call it the Sears Tower instead of the Willis Tower. It's the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere!
