What makes a good friend in college?

9 Reasons Why I Am Thankful For My New Friends In College

Once you make friends in college, you are pretty much with them 24/7 the whole time that you are at school. These are 9 reasons why my new college friends are the best ones out there.

1. They are ALWAYS willing to get food with you

No matter what time of day it is, my friends are always down and more than willing to go get food with me. Whether it is from the dining hall, LSU, or a fabulous place off campus they are always eager and ready to go. Who cares about the freshman fifteen anyway?

2. Your group chat is the absolute best

The group chat has an infamous name that only the group chat members will understand. The group chat is a constant mass of inside jokes, the current gossip, and also plans for that night or weekend. It is basically sheer proof that we need our own reality show because the things that happen in it are priceless.

3. When you go home you miss them

As soon as any of us leave campus for a weekend, the 'I miss you' text messages begin to flow in . I basically have separation anxiety from being away from my college friends for the shortest amount of time because i am so used to being with them 24/7.

4. You always borrow each other's clothes

When I cannot find anything to wear in my surplus of clothes, I suddenly remember that I have multiple other closets to shop through. All of our clothes basically end up becoming a sequel to the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. The majority of the time I don't even have to ask because everyone basically just has a free-for-all in each others closets.

5. If one of you gets subtweeted, you all get subtweeted

If anybody messes with someone in the friend group, that means you're messing with all of us. My friends always have my back, just like I always have theirs. They want the best for everyone in the friend group, so if they see or hear someone trying to start something they will intervene right away.

6. You do not care what other people think

People are always going to say rude things about others. As long as we are with the friend group, we do not care. We are always ourselves and don't give a damn about what others think about us. The only thing that matters is that we are having fun. When we are all together we are confident in ourselves which is what makes our group special and unique. I love the things that my friends say and do without fear of judgement, because that's where all of our memories come from.

7. They are always willing to go out on adventures

If your friend group is like mine, then you absolutely love leaving campus and going on adventures. Whether it's going to Insomnia Cookies and Dairy Queen, or going into Boston and taking a stroll, everyone is always ready to drop their things and go. We are all willing to try everything and anything in order to have a good time which leads to many unforgettable adventures and memories. No matter what the given adventure is and what it holds, I always have people to go do it with me.

8. They are your family away from home

Of course everyone gets homesick once in a while, but my friends are always there to take away the discomfort and make me feel better. They can relate to my emotions, because they too are feeling them. These people are not only my dear friends and support system, but also my family. They make my new home (college) feel just like home.

9. You are always laughing

No matter where we are or what we are doing, there is always a steady flow of laughter. Whether we are laughing at how crazy something is or how spontaneous some of our friends are (Mary), I always end up laughing so hard that I cry and eventually end up with a stomach ache. Finding friends with good senses of humor and personalities is key, because my friends can keep me laughing for hours everyday over the smallest things. As Charlie Chaplin once said, "a day without laughter is a day wasted". I'm very happy to say that we laugh everyday, so we have not wasted any days.

To the members of the BFBBG group chat, I love and appreciate each and every one of you. Thank you for your friendship, it means the world to me. I cannot wait to see where these next four years at Regis take us

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
