1. They're always there for you. Always.
I mean...really. Did you have a bad day? They're happily waiting for you when you get home with wet noses and wagging tails. Do you want to cry and complain? They'll listen. They don't care how snot nosed you get or how wet your tears get their fur. They might be confused half the time, but they truly want your pain to go away.
2. They taught you to try harder if you want your personal space.
The door being cracked was not an invitation. What? No, this isn't for you. Why are you so nosy?
3. You don't have to work to impress them.
I don't know. Maybe they get together and talk about all the times I fall up the stairs and sing off key in the shower. Who knows? All I know is when I look up from my face plant or step out of steamy bathroom, they aren't judging me. And I appreciate that.
4. They're protective.
....so what if it's just a shadow? You go get that shadow, boy!
5. They're really, really smart.
...how? ...did you teach yourself to open that door? Do you just plot things behind my back? Where did you find that? No, just because I said "walk" doesn't mean we're going for one. Quit eavesdropping.
6. They make us laugh...a lot.
What kind of face is that? Do you see the way you're laying right now? You don't even want this...its broccoli? How are you making that noise right now? Do you want to see how these sunglasses look on you? What are you thinking about being this Halloween...I like this cowboy hat. What do you think?
7. Like really...sometimes they just amaze us.
I know, baby, you have a hard life.
8. They're just freaking adorable, okay?
Can I be you? No, really. Teach me your ways.
9. They teach us valuable life lessons, that last forever.
Sadly, our faithful companions don't stay by our sides forever. But their lessons do. They teach us how to love unconditionally, be quick to forgive, listen and be in the moment, responsibility, routine, organization and friendship. Dogs are teachers, therapists, protectors, comedians, and best friends. And we're thankful for all they have to offer.
