Like most 20-somethings, I'm an avid coffee drinker. If I do not get coffee right after I wake up, the rest of the day is pretty much a bust. I would definitely self identify myself as a coffee addict, I have felt the withdrawal headaches on days where I have tried to cut back on coffee. I have both the Starbucks and Dunkin' Donuts app on my phone and am totally not ashamed that I use at least one of them every day. But ever since Starbucks changed its rewards program, I've taken a step back and really looked at Starbucks and realized they're just scamming everyone.
I am here to tell you though that Dunkin' Donuts 100 percent trumps Starbucks. If you don't believe me, here are nine facts to back it up.
1. Donuts.
The word "donuts" is literally in the name of the store. Who doesn't love donuts? There are always donuts and they may not be fancy but they are always delicious.
2. Rewards card.
In case you didn't know, Dunkin' Donuts has a rewards system just like Starbucks. And it is so much better than Starbucks. For every $1 you spend, you get five points and after 200 points, you get a free drink. At Starbucks, you get two stars for every dollar, and need 125 stars for a free drink. Not only do you have to spend less money at Dunkin', but everything in the store (including donuts) is fair game, not just the drinks. Your rewards also last for months so you can save them for your next bad day, like I do.
3. Birthdays.
Probably one of the best parts of my birthday is the free drink from Starbucks and Dunkin' Donuts. Starbucks kinda lets you down -- your birthday reward is only available for three days. Dunkin' give you your reward for three months.
4. Prices.
Everything at Dunkin' Donuts is so much cheaper than at Starbucks. You'd be hard pressed to find any drink there that would cost more than $5. At Starbucks, it's honestly a win if you spend less than $5.
5. Sizes.
Size doesn't always matter. But, let's be honest, with coffee, it does. Not only is Dunkin' cheaper, but its cup sizes are also bigger. You are literally paying less money for more coffee.
6. Thermoses.
I recently discovered that Starbucks drink sizes are so weird and so unique that the only place you can buy them is at a Starbucks. Dunkin' has normal, universal coffee sizes (like 32 oz. instead of 26 oz.) so you can buy your reusable cup anywhere you want.
7. Thermoses continued.
When you buy a Dunkin' Donuts thermos, they give you a free drink, which totally makes that $8 thermos worth it. Not only that, but the thermos can actually go towards your next free drink. No free drink at Starbucks. But they do take off 10 cents every time you use your reusable cup, which was nice right until they changed their reward system. Now, my reusable cup is making me 10 cents further away from my next free drink.
8. No drama.
You never hear news reports about Dunkin's holiday cups that are too "Christmas-y" or law suits about under-poured drinks -- just saying.
9. Donuts.
Again, donuts are important and delicious.
Coffee is very important to me. And clearly, so are donuts.
