9 Reasons To Love A Snow Day

Living in New England for my entire life has given me some serious snow day experience. Ever since I can remember I’ve been missing school or work due to treacherous weather conditions and I have been loving it. Here are just some of the reasons they have proven themselves to be some of my all-time favorite days.

1. A Free Pass

Lets face it, we all need a break sometimes and a snow day is like a free pass. You get to skip all your classes and regroup without having that unexcused absence staring back at you. Even if you have to catch up on work or do some cleaning, you get a day to get yourself together and be able to be an even better you.

2. No Snooze Button Needed

Waking up to a text message saying class has been canceled is the best kind of morning text I’ve ever received. Immediately feeling relieved and being able to turn off that 6am alarm, there isn’t a better feeling. Snuggling back under a warm blanket cocoon feels amazing.

3. No Pants Party

Once you decide you want to actually get out of bed you don’t have put in the effort of picking out an outfit. Let alone the effort of wiggling into some tight jeans and a real bra. You can just hang around the house in your PJs or your favorite sweat suit, heck you don’t even have to put on pants if you don’t want to.

4. Au Naturale

To go along with your lazy day attire you can feel free to rock a nakey face and a messy bun. You don’t have to leave the house, so you don’t have to see any classmates, coworkers, or that cute barista at your favorite coffee shop.

5. Act Like a Kid

Whether its making snow angels, going sledding, or building a snow fort snow activities bring back those childhood memories of spending all day in your snowsuit. You’re never too old for a snowball fight with your neighbors.

6. Veg Out

If you decide you don’t want to venture out into the artic tundra there is always the wonderful option of your couch. Catch up on that Netflix series or binge watch all eight Harry Potter movies. Take a nap if that’s how you’re feeling!

7. Feast

I don’t know about anyone else but I take snow days as an opportunity to pig out. My mother is a killer cook and she loves snow days even more than me, which means she makes all her best dishes on snow days. Waking up to breakfast by that woman makes me thank my lucky stars.

8. Cuddle Fest

When its cold outside all I want to do is get warm. One of the best ways to do that is to cuddle up with someone you love (or at least someone you don’t hate) sometimes that’s your mom, or you boyfriend, or your dog, or your best friend, or even a teddy bear. Extra points if you add in the food and the binge watching, the perfect snow day cocktail.

9. Winter Wonderland

Even though sometimes the snow is huge pain the bum no one can deny that there is something magical about a fresh layer of snow. It makes the whole world look clean and fluffy and sparkly and beautiful.

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?
