Have you ever found something so interesting, whether it be a hobby or just something fun and new to do and try, and just fallen completely in love with it to the point where you could do it every day and never get bored of doing it? I have. And if you have to, isn’t it the greatest feeling in the world? I think so! Just being able to be yourself and enjoy something you love to do is possibly one of the most magnificent, pleasant, happiest feelings one could ever have. It is practically euphoria. Whether it be playing an instrument, playing sports, riding dirt bike, creating art, taking photography, anything really. But my euphoria is being a part of theatre. I first joined theatre when I was in third grade and we were doing the play Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf, and I was going to play the part of the grandma. I was able to explore my inner actress (more like a movie star) and become someone I never knew I could be. And because of this, I was able to fall in love with the thought of acting and being a part of theatre and here are 9 reasons why I love being a part of theatre;
9. The Self-Expression.
Because of theatre, I have learned how to be able to express myself more effectively than ever before, whether I am on stage or off stage. It has been able to help me with how to communicate my thoughts and feelings to others and it also has allowed me to improve relationships with my friends and family as well. Being a part of theatre makes it so I am able to unfold around everyone and it helps me recognize and take control of the power I have and make it so I can self-express myself in any way I want to. It makes me more in tune with my emotions by being better able to understand just what they mean and better able to express them in different ways so others can understand too.
8. The Self-Awareness.
Because of theatre, I have learned about how my mind and the mind of others work. It has made me realize the environment in which I have lived my whole life affects who I am as a person and who I will become in the future. It has made me aware of people, places, and certain ideas I would not be exposed to otherwise. It has opened my eyes to different aspects of the world and made me more aware of all the possible emotion that a person can have as well as different expression forms. I have become a more open minded person because of theater.
7. The Creativity.
Because of theatre, I have become a more creative person whether it be in writing, or drawing, or in any other thing I may come across. My mind is able to be open to more ideas and I am able to become a “different character” whether I am on or off the stage. You are forced to think about how a character may act when it comes to acting and so theatre allows me to open my mind to so many options with how that character is able to “live”. I am able to think freely, feel freely, and become who I want to be in a creative and unique way. As well as showing me so many different ways to live my life to the fullest.
6. The Music.
Because of theatre, I have learned to love the music that musicals incorporate into their productions. Listening to this type of music to you may just be phony baloney and stupid, but for me, it speaks to me. The words allow me to understand the world and life in general in another perspective. It paints a picture of expression of different emotions and actions that happen in the play. Music allows me to hear things that I see in so many ways. For example, when someone is sad, I am able to hear the violins somber for them and when someone is angry, I am able to hear the drums beating to their anger. Most of the music that musicals produce are not only catchy, but also meaningful in my eyes.
5. I’ve Become Well-Rounded.
Because of theatre, I have become a well-rounded person. Being involved with theatrer takes a significant amount of commitment and time. And because of this, I have learned to organize my life in a well-rounded manner. For example, I was able to handle sports, school, homework and theatre all because the theatre program at my school gave me the opportunity to get my life organized and to know when to get important things done. It teaches me what really needs to be prioritized in life like love over lust.
4. I Get To Meet New People.
Because of theatre, I got to meet new people. Whether it be people from my school, or someone becoming a new character in the production we were doing, it was always fun to make a new friend and learn about one another and learn new things every day about one another. Meeting new characters make you feel like you’re never really alone even when you are because you sort of feel them in your imagination (in a totally non-weird way).
3. It’s My Therapy.
Because of theatre, I am able to find my own “therapy” after a long day. It has helped me unwind from the stress I could be dealing with that day and let me just relax and become a different person. I am able to turn off the real world for a while and just leave all my problems at the door. I am able to look forward to seeing my friends, or singing that one song I like so much, or hearing someone use a voice/accent they have come up with for their character, or just being able to become a different person just for a couple of hours.
2. The Confidence I’ve Built.
Because of theatre, I have been able to build up my confidence when speaking to others. Most people say that they wouldn’t be able to step on stage in front of people they don’t know or they would get stage fright and run off. I have learned to be more confident with myself in everything I do because I know most people won’t do what I can do. Plus you are really able to be another version of yourself.
1. I Get To Be Myself.
Lastly, because of theatre, I have learned that I can be myself and just be who I truly am. I have become a bubbly, enthusiastic, positive, optimistic, “weird”, and outgoing person because of theatre. Theatre allows me to laugh and smile and be happy no matter how my day has been going. I absolutely love being a part of theatre and wouldn't trade it for anything in the world.
