I don't know about you, but for me, it's really hard to stay hydrated. But this past week, I have carried a water bottle around with me everywhere I went and noticed a visible change in how I felt. Why should you drink more water? Here is the argument...
1. Make your skin glow.
Since skin is the largest organ on our body, with the correct nourishment, it is able to improve its color and texture. While you aren't going to drastically change, you will notice a little bit of difference here and there.
2. Have a better mood.
Research has shown that when you are dehydrated, you often are more irritable and grumpy. While drinking more water allows you to think more clearly and be in a better mood - this benefits you and also the people around you!
3. Prevent cancer.
Research has also shown that staying hydrated can reduce risk of colon cancer by 45 percent, bladder cancer by 50 percent and possibly reduce breast cancer risk. And it's one of the most easy ways to fight it!
4. Prevent headaches.
Both headaches and chapped lips are a sign that you are dehydrated, so if you suffer from these, this is one way to help eliminate them. A headache is like a warning; your body is telling you that it needs more water!
5. Your body needs it.
Not to sound melodramatic, but you could literally die if you don't have enough of it. Our body can only last three days without it, so just do your body a favor and drink some water!
6. Water helps your kidneys.
Your kidneys' job is mainly to clean your bodies of toxins, and with the proper amount of water, your kidneys are able to remove most toxins, leaving you feeling better. When your urine is more clear, this means you are more hydrated—so you can use this as a test to see how your body is doing.
7. You will have more energy.
Sometimes, a major cause of tiredness and fatigue is not having enough water. So get a little more prepared for that 8 a.m., but making sure you drink enough water, which will help you think clearer and have better concentration.
8. Weight loss.
Trying to lose a few pounds? Water can help you do this naturally. While, of course, you do need to maintain a healthy diet by drinking water, it helps to tell when you are actually hungry. So you may end up reducing your total calorie count overall.
9. Helps with joint and muscle health.
Lastly, if you are an avid active person, water is what your body needs. You need to make sure your joints have enough water in order to not hurt while you are exercising, and the same goes for your muscles!
Shoot for 64 ounces a day, but if you want to get a little scientific, take your weight in pounds and divide it by two, and that's what you should be drinking in fluid ounces (140 pounds means 70 ounces of water a day).
