In the sports world there is always the hot debate on which sport is truly America's pastime. Is it baseball or football? Baseball has been around way longer then football. There isn't a better feeling in the world then being out in that summer heat playing baseball. Whether it be something as simple as just playing catch in the backyard, it's the perfect sport. Baseball is shaped like a girls best friend: a diamond. That right there should be enough as to why this sport is America's pastime. Here's 9 other reasons why baseball is America's pastime.
1. Equal Playing Field
In any other sport, you usually have to be an all around player to succeed. That's not the case when it comes to baseball. You could be great a pitching but be terrible at hitting. So, you can become a pitcher and succeed to your potential. It doesn't matter your shape or size either when it comes to baseball. Unlike in basketball you have to be tall or football you have to have superior strength. In baseball you can be short or tall it doesn't matter.
2. Minor Leagues
Baseball is a sport anyone can go and watch. If you can't afford to go watch an MLB team play, then go see a minor league team play. Tickets are usually at most $20 depending on the level of competition. I've gone to numerous Great Lakes Loons games and have paid at most $20 including expenses. It's also a lot more laid back feeling. If you have kids, I highly recommend taking them to a game. Also, it's a great date night. Way better then a dinner and a movie.
3. Personality
Baseball is the only sport one can truly show their personality to an extent. Whether it be with a bat flip or showing off running around the bases after hitting a home run. You can show off exactly who you are in baseball. Nobody is going to care because everyone does it to an extent.
4. Ballparks
There isn't anything more beautiful then a baseball stadium. Every baseball stadium is unique in it's own way. Whether it be the Green Monster at Fenway or the ivy at Wrigley Field. Every football field is exactly 100 yards. Baseball fields have the luxury of being a little more flexible in the lengths of their fences.
5. Comebacks
You're favorite team could be down be 5 runs in the 9th inning and still have a chance to make a comeback. It all depends on the hearts of the players. It's hard to get 27 outs in a game. Just ask any closer how extremely hard it is to get those last 3 outs.
6. Summertime
There's nothing like a Friday night in July being at a baseball game. Being out in the sun and getting that baseball tan. They should rename the farmer's tan to the baseball tan. Everyone enjoys to be out in the sun so why not watch a baseball game.
7. Best Fans
Everyone has a favorite team. They are die hard fans. Asking any elder individual and they'll tell you how much they like their favorite team. They know all these random facts that'll make you be speechless. But, also baseball has some amazing young fans you can cheer just as loud as their older counterparts.
8. Simplicity
Baseball is a simple game. The objective is to get 27 outs in a game. There's none of these weird rules that there are. If the runner is out, he/she is out. You can truly teach anyone baseball and they'll catch on quickly. Try it out, I guarantee you can.
9. Classic
Everyone who plays baseball has respect for the game. If you pay close attention to a game, you'll see how each player respects the game. Watch the batter next time go around the umpire not over home plate. This is out of respect. You also always see opposing players tipping their caps when another player on the other team makes a tremendous play.
