Being born and raised in South Jersey, I click on anything with 'South Jersey' in the headlines. Typically they are spot on and I am clapping my hands. However, "15 Ways You Know You're From South Jersey" had me saying 'not exactly.' While some of the writer's points were correct, others were not. Here are 9 REAL Ways You Know You're From South Jersey.
1. The Shore is our summer home.
Wildwood, Ocean City, Sea Isle, Cape May and Atlantic City. We are proud of our beaches. We go nowhere else. Anywhere further comes into "central" territory and the lines get a bit tricky.
2. Technically, there is no Central Jersey.
Period.
3. We KNOW how to pump our own gas.
If you travel to Delaware or Philly, you have to pump your own gas. If you don't know seriously you need to learn how before you stand at a pump looking like a complete idiot.
4. There's way more than Cherry Hill or Philadelphia and I am pretty sure others know that.
Philadelphia isn't even in New Jersey! I have never in my life had an issue with describing where I live. Who are you talking to, girlfriend?!
5. Most of us will not be at BB&T this summer.
You will find most South Jersey adults on the beach, tanning. Or on the Delaware River with their boats or jet skis. Try having a bonfire at your house while listening to your music surrounded by friends. Most of us would rather explore all the beautiful things our area has to offer.
6. We are NOT all the same.
I swear some of these fresh out of high school kids make the rest of us from South Jersey look ridiculous. Just be patient, give them a few years and they'll be much more bearable.
7. Actually, it is "Water."
Somehow New Jersey adopted 25 accents. I can only tell you of a handful of people that pronounce it "wudder." Those same pronounce a crayon as "crown."
8. You have never in your life heard that Meek Mill Song.
Born and raised and seriously no idea what you're talking about. If you are from South Jersey, most people know country. We are covered in wannabe rednecks.
9. Obviously, we call you out.
As I am doing at this present moment. We don't fear confrontation. We hold our own and say it like it is. Especially if it's to someone who could make us look bad. It's a blessing. We are able to say what we have to and move along because we are adults. It's out of love.
