9 Reactions I Get When I Say I'm From El Paso, Texas
Houston Chronicle

Being from the step-child of Texas, you don’t really have any popularity like some other cities (Dallas, Houston, Austin, etc), but we still matter nonetheless. There are a lot of stereotypes on who Texans are, especially from El Paso. Well, I am here to set the record straight on what it really means to be from El Paso.

1. I have family in Dallas.

Cool, but I’m not even remotely close to where they live. Many people get excited when I say I’m from Texas, but nothing beats the look of disappointed and confusion when I say I am from El Paso.

2. Where's that?

There are four main parts to Texas: the panhandle (Lubbock), the east (Beaumont), the tail (Corpus Christi), and the point (El Paso). We are the point! It frustrates me when people ask me where it is, I must point it on a map for them, and their simple response is merely a nod.

3. How many horses do you own?

El Paso is not the cowboy part of Texas. While there are some parts in the valley where people have their farms, the whole city is not a bunch of saloons where cowboys go to duel. No, I don’t have any horses, but I have a dog the size of one.

4. But you don't have an accent.

You don’t need an accent to be from Texas. Not everyone that you come across is going to have that long southern drawl. It is just not possible. Do you think I haven’t tried to get an accent? That I haven’t spent hours in front of the mirror practicing. Stop harassing me on my accent!

5. So you're a Cowboy's fan, right?

Considering I am not a fan of football, no. If you were to ask me I would probably answer you something sarcastic like the Dallas Cowboy Hats, or the Lone Star Cowboy Boots. No, I don't like the Cowboys never have, never will.

6. What's the weather like?

Well, it depends on the time you visit. During the summer it gets very hot, but you get used to it after awhile. But our winters are very nice and enjoyable.

7. You say y'all so cute.

No. It's not cute. It is pretty much me being lazy to say "you all". And not everyone from El Paso says it, but if you spend time watching western movies, you will learn to pick up a few things.

8. Who's your favorite country artist?

I've never been a great fan of country music. The closest I've come to being a fan of country music is Taylor Swift, and that is saying something. So no, I don't have a cowboy hat and I don't have a piece of hay you can put in your mouth.

9. That's so cool! I've never been.

Well, you should visit. Our city is like no other in Texas. El Paso brings originality to the state and it is what makes me proud to say I'm from Texas.

eye roll

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"

Yify

Another day, another Elle Woods comment. Can’t us blondes get through the day without someone harping at us over the typical stereotypes about who we are? I never understood why a person was judged based upon the hair color they were born with, or the hair color they choose to have (unless you dye your hair blue like Kylie Jenner, I’m still trying to understand why that’s a trend). Nevertheless, as it should be assumed, not everyone is the same. Not all blondes like bright colors and Lilly Pulitzer, and not all blondes claim to identify with Marilyn Monroe. I think the best suggestion to give to people before they make such radical claims is to stop judging a book by its cover. Or in this case, stop judging a blonde by her hair color.

15 Things That Happen On Your Birthday

Do you have a small get-together or throw a big bash?

My birthday has never been my favorite holiday. I've found that I'm more excited to celebrate my friends' and family members' birthdays more than my own. I don't like being the center of attention, so I usually celebrate over dinner with a small group of family and friends. This way, I can enjoy myself naturally without feeling like I have to entertain everyone and make sure they are satisfied. In the past when I've had large parties, I was so nervous that people weren't perfectly content that I didn't enjoy myself at my own celebration.
