As a young person living with glasses you hear so many cliches all the time and they only get worse in your college years. You’d think in a world where glasses are becoming more and more popular people would back off with the dumb comments, but honestly it is just as bad as they were in the 90’s. Please stop the stupid jokes. We have all heard them before, so if you see someone with glasses please refrain from saying any of the following.
“Four-eyes”
I have been called “four-eyes” more than you can count. Since the day I got my glasses until now, there hasn’t been a month that I haven’t been called four-eyes. I have heard it plenty of times and so has everyone else. It really isn’t funny, fam.
“Why don’t you try wearing contacts?”
“You wear glasses? You must be so smart!”
“Have you considered getting LASIK?”
Everyone with glasses has thought about LASIK. If we haven’t gotten it yet, we probably do not want it. As for me, I do not have thousands of dollars to spend just to get rid of my $100 glasses. Also I like the way I look with glasses on.
“You’d look so pretty without your glasses on”
And you’d look so much prettier not talking to me. I’m just kidding, but in all seriousness girls who wear glasses all the time honestly feel more comfortable with them on. They are kind of like a safety net, so stop telling them people they would look better without them because glasses do not make them uglier.
“Are they real?”
No. They are fake. I just get up every morning and put on the same fake glasses that do nothing to advance my line of sight for fun. Of course they are real. I cannot see without them.
“Can I try your glasses on?”
No you cannot try my glasses on. I hate it when people try my glasses. You get fingerprints on the lenses. You can’t see out of them anyways. And you’re just going to have a dumb comment to say afterwards.
“How many fingers am I holding up?”
“Wow, you are so blind!”
Yes. I have bad vision. That is why I wear glasses. Thank you for pointing that out to me. I would have never known if you hadn’t told me.
