9 Must Try Food Places on Long Island

When one goes away to college they never realize what they have until they leave. This especially hit hard for me when i moved from Long island to upstate New York. If there is one thing that I could have 24/7 in upstate New York is the food from Long island. This article is a dedication to the must try food places on Long Island. Warning; I may be a little biased since I live in Nassau County

1) All American - Massapequa, NY

If you have not tried this place, please stop what your doing and go try it out for yourself. All American is an old time classic. It has been open since 1963! The reason that I love this place so much is because its quick, cheap, and, most importantly, it's delicious! If there is one thing you have to try there, it's their milkshakes. They are thick and creamy, which goes super well with their greasy fries!!

2) Pitstop- Merrick, NY

This hidden treasure is located right on Sunrise Highway across from the Merrick Movie Theater. This food place was also featured on "Diner's, Drive In's and Dives". It's a cute little place. I can't say I can recommend anything in particular, but overall there food is so delicious. Its a must try!

3) Mac and Melt- Garden City, NY

If you love mac and cheese just as much as I do, you must try Mac and Melt. They have a variety of different mac and cheeses and well as cheesy sandwiches. When I went here, I tried the five cheese mac and cheese and afterwards I went to five cheese heaven. It was so delicious and not bad for the price of it. The best thing I love about this place is how you order your food and then they bring it to you !!

4) Frizzles- Commack, NY

Over the summer, I tried this cute little place with my friends. I personally got the mac and cheese sandwich, which was beyond amazing. I definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants to try something new.

5) Cannon's Blackthorn- Rockville Center, NY

Located in village of Rockville Center, this bar/ restaurant is a must try! Most people go out on the weekends to this bar, but I most formally know it as a restaurant. Growing up in a half Irish home, my family has tried to find a good Irish place to eat. When you walk in it even has that Irish feel to it. They have really awesome cabbage egg rolls. Also this place is located conveniently off the LIRR.

6) Little Vincent's- Huntington, NY & Lake Ronkonkoma, NY

Stop what your doing and go get a slice of pizza from Little Vincent's. Its a classic on Long Island. You truly have no experienced Long Island correctly if you haven't been to Little Vincent's. Please go out and try their cold cheese slice. It's to die for !!

7) Sushi Time 560- Bethpage, NY

Being a sushi lover, it can be hard to find a good sushi place. I recommend going to this place starving because you will come out feeling extremely full. For all you can eat sushi, Sushi Time 560 is the place to go. I personally recommend trying their Filet Mignon Roll!

8) New Old Venice Inn- Baldwin, NY

Born and raised in Baldwin, I had to put this classic down on my list. This place is conveniently located on Merrick Road, right across the parking lot from the Baldwin Public Library. Known as NOVI for short, this place has amazing Italian food that you must try if you're ever in town. They have solid Italian classics. I am personally obsessed with the chicken parm so go try that!

9) American Waffle House- Seaford, NY

Yet another restaurant located on Merrick Road, this place is somewhere you need to put on your bucket list if you have not gone. It is a cute little place with the most amazing food (specifically their waffles).

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
