9 Movies To Watch This Christmas Season
Romania Insider

Christmas is one of the best times of the year. Families come together, cozy up on the couch, and watch a movie. Sometimes though it's hard for everyone to agree on a movie because there are so many options. To make it a little easier here are nine movies to watch this Christmas:

1. Scrooged (1983)

Billy Murray takes on a Christmas Carol. (What more do you need to know?) The Charles Dickens' story was given an New York update and a slightly more dramatic flare. Frank Cross's (Murray) TV station is preparing to air a live adaptation of of 'A Christmas Carol' only to find himself being taken on a wild cab ride and experiencing the story for himself. Scrooged is a whirlwind of drama and comedy full of great one-liners. You'll have a great time watching this movie.

2. Home Alone (1990)

Perhaps one of the most iconic Christmas movies, Home Alone is a film that never disappoints. Even after 20 years, all the jokes and gags, although obvious, are still hilariously funny. The film starts Macaulay Culkin as Kevin McCallister who mistakenly gets left behind when his family goes on Christmas vacation. And the madness begins... Kevin initially relishes the fact that he is home alone. However, the revelry soon wares off as two crooks try to break into his home. Home Alone provides laughs, drama, and heart that have made it a must-see movie during the Christmas season.

3. Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer (1964)

The iconic story of Rudolph, reindeer who just doesn't fit in. This movies follows his adventure to find himself. Along the way he meets fellow misfits and even faces off with an Abominable Snowman. It's a classic feel-good movie about being true to who you are that the whole family will love this Christmas.

4. How the Grinch Stole Christmas! (1966)

Yes, the animated one. If you're going to watch a Grinch movie then you need to stick with the original animated version. Narrated by Boris Karloff, How the Grinch Stole Christmas! has become a Christmas classic. The film follows the Dr. Seuss novel about the Grinch trying to take Christmas away from the Whos down in Whoville. Disguised as Santa Claus and with the aid of his trusty dog-turned-reindeer, Max, the Grinch sets out to steal Christmas. It's fun. It's whimsical. It's a musical. What more do you want?

5. The Santa Clause (1994)

The film follows Scott Calvin (Tim Allen) has he accidentally becomes the new Santa Clause. He is taken to the North Pole where he learns about all being the newest Santa. Even after 20 years, this movie still maintains all the magic of Christmas. This feel-good movie is a perfect choice for a family night this Christmas season.

6. Mickey's Christmas Carol (1983)

Another take on the Charles Dickens classic novel, this time with our favorite Disney characters. Ebenezer Scrooge (Scrooge McDuck) is visited by three ghosts and must learn the true meaning of Christmas. This film is clever, well-written, and full of hope. Perhaps it's my Disney bias, but this might be one of the best adaptations of this tale.

7. The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)

Is it a Halloween movie? Is it a Christmas movie? Let's say that it's both. This claymation film follows Jack Skellington, the Pumpkin King, as he stumbles across portals to different holiday towns. He falls through the door to "Christmas Town" which makes him want to celebrate the holiday. Because he's only ever known Halloween, things don't quite as planned. A simple story full of heart about a guy trying to learn what Christmas is really about.

8. It's A Wonderful Life (1946)

Perhaps the most popular movie during the Christmas season, It's A Wonderful Life has stood the test of time. The movie tells of a man named George who plans to commit suicide on Christmas Eve but interrupted by his guardian angel. The angel attempts to show George that he has made a huge impact on his community and he truly does have a wonderful life. A true story of hope that is bound to inspire many people this Christmas season.

9. Frosty the Snowman (1969)

A group of kids place a magical top hat on their snowman Frosty which brings him to life. All seems well until a magician comes looking for his missing hat. Frosty and one of his new friends hideaway on a North Pole-bound train in an attempt to keep him safe and keep him from melting. Based on the song of the same name, this heartfelt movie is great for all ages.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
