Life is a journey that stands completely unpredictable. We don't know what to expect or what to prepare for. Fortunately, those who have seen it all provide us with insight on what we can do now in order to brace ourselves for what's ahead on the road of life. Ron Swanson, the very definition of a man, offers plenty of advice for us on how to enjoy life.
1. Breakfast food
Breakfast food, one of the greatest creations of mankind. Anytime is the perfect time for breakfast food. There is only one rule when it comes to breakfast food: There is no limit. Ron Swanson firmly believes that there is no maximum intake of this wonderful creation -- chow down and enjoy it.
2. Interests
If you're not interested in something, admit it. Don't worry about trying to impress others or "going with the flow." You don't have to feel obligated to taking interest with something simply because it's the new thing. Stand on your beliefs.
3. Commitments
Don't try and give 50 percent to two different things -- it won't fall through. You can't choose A and B, there is only one choice that can be made. Either commit to one or the other, plain and simple.
4. Honesty
If you don't want something, say so. If something is bothering you, bring it up. People will be remarked of how genuine your character is -- just be careful on what you're being honest about.
5. Have a competitive spirit.
A little competition never hurts anybody. Sometimes having a drive to succeed is what pushes us through life in general. Tell yourself that you're determined to win the race and do what you need to do in order to fulfill that promise.
6. Don't get caught up in yourself.
As the Eagles' song "Hotel California" goes, "you can check out any time you'd like, but you can never leave." Don't get caught in your own thoughts that you're no longer "there." Stay true to yourself and don't let your pride consume you.
7. Know when to pull the plug.
Even though people say you should never give up, sometimes it's important to know when to pull the plug on something. If there is something in your life that is starting (or has been) tying you down, it's time to break out the scissors and cut the cord.
8. Make sure your loved ones know how you feel about them.
Yes, this one can be a bit awkward, but it's incredibly powerful -- especially in a friendship. Telling someone how much they mean to you strengthens a bond between the both of you and secures the friendship. They'll appreciate how valued they are to you.
9. Be prepared for anything.
As started at the beginning, life is full of unexpected twists and turns. Remember that common phrase, "Rather be safe than sorry"? Use it. Be prepared for the worst so that when it occurs, you'll be able to hold your ground.
Ron Swanson is a man of few words. But when he speaks, it's something that will eternally stay in our thoughts. Use the wisdom and insight of others to prepare yourself for the journey of life. It's a crazy ride and the best we can do is strap ourselves in and make the most of it.
