Food is by-far one of the most wonderful things on the planet. It can taste good, it can be representative of a culture, and it, is in a way, an art form. Putting all of these wonderful things aside, I think one of the most magical things about food is its ability to form friendships with other foods. There are some really great food combinations out there, ones that really compliment the tastes and textures of another food. Complimenting another's strengths is one of the best parts of a true friendship, so I'm really glad that these foods have found each other and made these bonds. Here is my list of some of the most irresistible food friendships out there.
1. Peanut Butter and Jelly
This elementary school classic has to be mentioned first. When thinking about beautifully crafted food friendships, this one comes to mind to right away. The saltiness and chunkiness of the PB creates a perfect harmony with the sweetness and smoothness of the jelly. These two have proven that they are meant to be friends forever, because they're so happy on their little piece of bread.
2. Peanut Butter and Chocolate
This food friendship is definitely one of the best. Peanut Butter can get along with more foods than just Jelly, which makes it even more amazing. Peanut Butter is probably the Taylor Swift of foods, assembling itself with the most kickass squad of friends. The peanut butter and chocolate is absolutely beautiful, because it can be eaten in so many different forms. A Reeses peanut butter cup and peanut butter and Oreos is only just the beginning for these two. Hallie and Annie from The Parent Trap would most definitely confirm the magic of this friendship because of their mutual love for Oreos and peanut butter.
3. Ice Cream and Pretzels
This friendship is a bit more unconventional, but still just as strong as the others. Dipping pretzel in a bowl of ice cream is a fantastic treat. These two definitely bring out each others' best qualities.
4. Grilled Cheese and Ketchup
The bond between ketchup and grilled cheese is a bit more difficult to see for some people. As an avid grilled cheese-dipper from a young age, I can attest that this friendship is meant to be. Grilled cheese is without a doubt delicious without any condiments, but ketchup makes it all the more delicious. The sweetness of the ketchup creates the perfect balance to the salty and melty goodness of the sandwich.
5. Marshmallows, Chocolate, and Graham Crackers
This campfire trio is one of the most admirable food friendships out there. Each adds something completely unique to the relationship. Graham crackers provide crunch and support for the whole S'more, marshmallows add a sticky sweetness and a wonderful texture, and chocolate adds beautiful melty sweetness. It is most admirable how much marshmallows sacrifice for their graham cracker and chocolate friends -- they have to withstand a terribly hot fire in order to unite the entire S'more! Also, this friendship is one of the most inclusive, for peanut butter, cookie dough, Nutella, and tons of other foods are always welcome to join the party.
6. Apples and Caramel
Once the weather gets colder and s'mores season comes to a close, apples and caramel are able to be in the spotlight. This pair has proven to have an incredible friendship, one that is enjoyed by many.
7. Apple Pie and Vanilla Ice Cream
Vanilla ice cream is a great companion to apple pie. The warmth of the pie and the chilled ice cream creates the absolute perfect temperature balance.
8. Tomato, Basil, and Mozzarella
The three components in this classic Italian starter have a friendship like no other. Who would have thought that a garden fruit, a soft cheese, and a leafy herb would get along so well? Together, they have the perfect blend of textures and enhance each other's colors. The white, red, and green create a colorful goodness.
9. Burgers and Shakes
This friendship is fantastic. It is clear that these two really care about each other, for they are consumed together often.
In conclusion, this list proves that foods are not only friends of us, but they are also friends to other foods! Yay friendship!!
